I found this off an avian article:

" In lots of discussions with lots of African Grey owners, and from observing my own, who is about to be 8, there seems to be two reasons a healthy Grey will do a lot of head shaking. One has to do with the anatomy of their eye. They will sometimes shake their heads to improve their focus, especially if a person or an object is in motion. I have an article on this somewhere that has the "official" name of this process and the internal structure of the eye that is involved and for the life of me, I cannot put my hands on it right this moment. So, I apologize for not being able to give you the scientific, official sounding name. Another reason they seem to do it, is when they are in what we call "record mode". This is seen a lot with Cockatiels also. In fact, I hear about it more often from Tiel owners than I do from Grey owners. I have some of each and I see it more from my Tiels. It seems to be a gesture they do when they are really listening closely and trying to learn a word or phrase. I see it from my Tiels almost anytime they are in "learn" mode. I only see if from my Grey when it's something pretty complex he is working on. For example a long phrase, something that is several sentences, or if he is working on a long piece of music. He is currently learning to whistle the theme song from The Bridge Over the River Kwai movie. Lots of head shaking for that one."

I got Rufus 10 years ago immediately after he was weaned, I rescued BoBo about 2 years ago from an older coulple...he was a mess the old man would chase him and swat at him with a towel...He couldnt fly well and would fall to the floor...Today BoBo is the "jet fighter" in the house. He flies beautifully and manuevers like you wouldnt believe!!! The baby I got about two months ago...He is down to about 30cc formula once a day...I got him for a steal on craigslist for $200!

(the story is that a woman went to our local avain pet store and bought him for over $1000 for her son who lost his other bird...well that bird was returned so she had no more use for the baby TAG...once i got him (3 days after she bought him!) I ran him back to the pet shop...they were amazed and couldnt believe she did that (she could have returned him for a full refund!) Anyways I swooped in at the right time and got lucky with him)

As a last comment on this forum i just wanna say that i def did not rip anyone off! When i replied to the craigslist ad I simply asked how much and she simply replied $200. I said wonderful, jumped in my car and picked up my baby immediately. I did not set prices and was very fortunate to get my baby for the price i did...
