Very Sad...

Hi.
I introduced myself about a week and a half ago when my husband got me Percy, my lil' Parrotlet.
Today Percy is gone.
He was fine this morning, chirping and playing on his swing.
I went out to run an errand and came back to find him in the bottom of his cage dead.
I am broken hearted. I sobbed like a baby when I found him.
I just don't understand. He was fine.
I've had bireds before, and I know how to care for them, I know I didn't do anything wrong.
Well, we got him at a PetCo, and I called them - the manager was very sweet. She has his sister.
She told me to bring him in, and she will either refund me or order another parrotlet for me. Of course, when you become attached, a "replacement" just doesn't cut it. But she was doing what she could.
I had him in my den, and it is just so quiet right now. Can't seem to stop crying every five minutes.

I am sorry. It is always hard, not matter how long you have had them.

I am so sorry to hear that, how heartbreaking. :(

You are right, no bird can ever be replaced. However, some of us find that it makes life easier and the joy comes back by eventually getting another bird. Us bird lovers don't like the quiet.

Again, I'm sorry to hear.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. It is amazing how quickly they steal our hearts.

It sounds like Petco is doing the right thing by you, at least as right as possible in this situation. I would check to see if there are any good breeders around you but of course, if they have another little parrotlet at Petco he/she might be hard to resist. All Petcos are not equal. It sounds like the one you use is a good one.

I agree with WhiteRaven. We can't replace the ones we lose but new ones bring new joy and help fill the emptiness.

I'm so sorry to hear about your little Percy. How heartbreaking :\ Honestly, it sounds like he came to you sick and you didn't do anything wrong. Birds are amazing at hiding any sign of illness. I'd really recommend looking into local breeders/rescues if you are going to get another bird. There may be some kind of sickness going around at the PetCo you got your parrotlet from.

It breaks my heart to hear that - although they're such resilient and valiant little creatures, there are mysterious afflictions out there that can strike so lethally. I'm so sorry for you...

I'm so sorry to hear about Percy We just lost a cockatiel last week - same type of thing, she was eating & bouncing around during the day, then we found her on the bottom of the cage early evening. I cried for two days....
