Nick, it's great to have you out here with us. I'm sure we will be able to learn a lot from your experiences. If you feel like posting some pictures of your flock I doubt anyone would mind.

I have a question. I do bird rescue with wild birds, but every so often people "dump" pet birds on us because they are desperate and know, or guess, the humane society isn't exactly humane when it comes to problem birds. So that is how I got my lovely Paco the grey and now my delightful and still quiet little lovebird with the bad leg (we are taping it to the good leg and hopefully all will be well in another week). Do you have any suggestions on how to teach him to be a little more quiet than lovebirds usually are? As my friend said, they had a lovebird named Screech..... I live in a condo where we can only have one pet, which I have exceeded by about 50-60 birds and a cat (over the one allowed dog) so we cannot have a loud bird. Paco talks to the neighbors as they walk by but he is not a screamer. Not only can Paquito NOT scream, he cannot teach Paco to scream--I have fallen in love with him, but if I have to find him a new home I need to do so pretty soon, I think. I have a great network of bird people, so I don't need to wait until he is weaned, but we have a great bond already and I hate the thought of passing him on....Of course, I have plenty of birds that need my attention I don't need to spend on the little one....we have eating time and kissing time and hiding in Momma's shirt time and standing up time and eating seeds time and play time.... any hope to keep him?

...how the hoo did you manage to get 60 birds into a condo? As for teaching him to be quiet? G'luck with that. It's not in a bird's nature to be quiet on command from a human. When/if the magic cure for screaming appears, lemme know too! Is your lovebird not weaned yet btw? I'm confuzzled.

Just wanted to let you know, my CAG Bing screams like a macaw. I don't know if he picked it up from Davey or my bird sitter video but he mimics it perfectly.
I don't think this is the warning you wanted to hear but you are not wrong in being worried that Paco might pick up the other guys vocalizing. Of course, Paco might be happy enough with all of the words and noises he makes on his own he may not take on the lovebird's. Bing was very young and just learning to imitate other sounds.
