Hello from Texas

Hi everyone I'm new here from TX. As soon as I figure all this out I have got some questions!!
I have the Maverick birds, Brett Maverick the lovebird we caught in our backyard in 2004. Nobody would claim her so we bought her a nice flight cage & kept her. Then in 2007 we caught Bart Maverick the cockatiel in the frontyard, same story nobody would claim him so we bought him a huge cage & parked it next to Brett. She was SO happy to have a pal next to her.

Last week we caught Beau Maverick, sex unkown so far, breed or variety unknown too. Beau is a dove but a dove that someone had to have bred as a pet because this dove doesn't look like ANY of the wild dove that frequent the area.. can't find a dove like this in a field guide either and finally our avian vet confirms that this is no wild dove. Poor Beau was out front in the pouring rain, covered in some kind of grease & unable to fly into a tree. Caught by hand thankfully because it got cold that night. I think a soaking wet cold domesticated bird would not have lived through the night.
I'm going to stop this post, look for the right place to ask questions about a dove & then ask a lot of them! lol
Nice to find this board, thanks in advance for any & all help with Beau.

Yea, another Texan. I'm a transplanted Yankee stuck in the middle of Texas
I wonder why I can never walk out my door and find birdies!

Oh my goodness look at all the Texans LOL!!
Catching a bird outside isn't easy. Brett flew around here for 3 full weeks, nearly starved to death out there. We tried using a cage as a trap, we bought a have- a- heart trap but it was too small so we took it back. We tried a net, we tried holding out a long stick, she would get within 3 feet of me then take off.
This is horrible but it worked, we bought a glue board for vermin then put food on it, then set it on top of our storage building where Brett liked to "hang out."
She was so hungry that we hadn't even gotten back in the house when we had her caught. We used Pam spray to get the glue off of her, then Dawn to get the grease off.
I took her to our vet the next day & she said this bird wasn't going to make it much longer because she was too thin.
Brett wanted seeds, the vet made her eat Harrison's & so now last Labor Day weekend was her 4 yr. anniversery with us.
Bart the cockatiel was easier, he was here at our house & next door. The people next door are retired & spend a lot of time sitting outside feeding & watching the wild birds.
I had to get ready for work, I handed them a cage & said put food in it, see if he'll walk in on his own & if he does slam the door shut.
I'm in the bathroom getting ready when I hear someone storm in my front door, it's Carol from next door screaming we caught him! He had walked into the cage & they slammed the door shut. I put Harrison's in his food cup & he ate it so didn't need the vet to make him eat.
Took him to the vet the next day, he was in better shape.
btw, apparently these were unwanted birds because nobody ran an ad or answered our found ads. Bart is extremely noisy, he took to my husband right away. My theory for him is that his owner had been a man, he's loud to the point of being annoying if you don't like birds. I think this man got a new girlfriend & she lost the bird for him... on purpose.
The dove, he/she was so exhausted the same neighbor next door just reached out & picked the bird up with his bare hands. I put Harrison's food in the cup & the dove ate it without an argument too. Wow.
Vet is treating the dove now, we can't put it in the same room with the parrots until the vet says ok. I think the dove would be happier if it could see the other birds. It seems to be doing fine so far though.
Thanks for all the welcomes, I'm happy to have found this board :)
