Hello! A bit about me...

Greetings fellow bird lovers :icon_smil

Glad to have stumbled upon this place! My name is Christina and it's been many years since I've had the pleasure of owning a pet bird, but now I'm definitely considering it again. My first bird was a little blue budgie - a superb little companion who enjoyed riding around on my head or shoulder, or just sitting on my desk.

I then got busy with college and finding a new job, and a new home, and all those things that life throws at you, and I never did get another bird. But now that things are settled down a bit, I've begun birdwatching (I have 4 tube feeders, 2 hopper feeders, a suet basket, and a birdbath in the yard) and it reminds me of the fun I had with my little budgie boy.

So here I am, basically a newb again! (It's been almost 10 years since I had a bird!) And I'm sniffing out all the info I can get on birds. I'm sure I'll have lots of newb-style questions on the main forums.

I also have two dogs and a husband. And I'm an obedience instructor for a local obedience club. So not to worry, the dogs and the bird will get along fine. :icon_smil I also owned a cat and a dog at the time that I owned my first budgie, so I have experience in that department!

I've already met (and gotten lots of good tips from) a few people that were in the chatting forum last night. But I can always use more help, so I figured I'd post to say hello to the rest of everyone! :icon_mrgr

Hi Christina, I'm also glad you stumbled upon our little family!! I can totally relate to your situation. I've had birds in the past and really miss that now. I've begun the long search of finding the right bird for me. I've finally decided on my original true love (from way back in the day - African Grey Parrot).

I look forward to hearing more about you and what you decide on.

birds

Well that's part of the reason I came here. I really don't know all of my options. I've paged through a few bird websites but they haven't been very detailed.

I'm going to post about this in the main forum to get some more ideas. But here's what's on my shortlist so far...

another budgie
a lineolated parakeet
and finches. I know finches aren't handleable, but they're darn cute.

Why not graduate to a parrotlet? You get all the personality of full-blown parrot in a convenient, compact design. Oh yeah, and welcome!

Glad you made it indysbirds! Sorry I skiddattled so quick out of chat last night.... work called!

You may also want to post on the aviaries and breeders page if you are looking to buy from a breeder. It may be helpful to know what is available in your area, and could infulence your decision.

Also, remeber to look into the Green Cheeked Conure too!
