forgot to introduce myself!
yellow, my name is Susan.... been in the bird habit for about five years, and breeding that long too!! I keep and breed cockatiels (mostly), parrotlets (try to anyway!), maxi pionus, and fischer's lovebirds. I also have a quaker. You can see their names in my sig. I'm 23 (24 next month) years old, and I live in Columbus, Ohio.
I'm heavily into zoology, my major areas of interest being icthyology (my emphasis, actually) and ethology. Unfortunately I didn't get much into birds until I was nearly done with college so I didn't take as many classes on them as I would have liked. :) (GO BUCKS!!) I have my own zoo at home... right now I have something like 22 birds including babies, with more on the way.... four turtles: 2 red eared sliders, one common musk (aka stinkpot), and one pancake tortoise... one hermit crab, one pac-man frog... six bettas... a whole lot of fish including a 13 year old 12" kissing gourami (my fave, we refer to her as "the bass"), and two dogs! One is a 9 year old dalmatian border collie mix, the other is a 10 month old Old English Sheepdog (my dream dog). We also share our home with a couple other dogs because I have a roommate. Let's see... I also enjoy music composition and teaching. I am an assistant percussion instructor at a high school during the summer, I do mostly mallet percussion. I arrange all the mallet music, and do a lot of other writing on the side. I ride dirtbikes, I have a CRF250X that I had lowered since I'm a shortie, and last year I went to motocross school. It's my 3rd bike in about as many years. I used to be really into paintball and I even started www.womeninpaintball.com, but dirtbikes have sort of taken over. I love gardening, I have a rose garden outside my birdroom window, and I try to keep as many other flowers as possible all around, but it's pretty hard with a 100+ puppy running around whose sole goal in life is to dig up whatever you bury or trample anything in his swath of destruction. I currently work at a pet store (BLEAGH), and it sucks, the economy sucks, it's not getting better, the pay is lousy, the customers are either morons are evil demons that suck the very soul from your body... i only work there because i got laid off from my last job as an animal tech in a lab (I refused to put animals to sleep, they refused to employ me any longer) and needed a job in a hurry. It probably wouldn't be so bad if I didn't constantly get the "pet store employees don't know what they're talking about" stereotype (which is mostly true!). I used to be an assistant manager at another pet store that sold human grade dog food. LOL I think this is getting pretty long. :) Oh well. I hope one day to open up my own bird supply store (no selling birds there!!), with every single thing imaginable for your companion bird... I'm tired of having to shop from five different places to get everything I need/want. Well anyhow, howdy all, you'll see me lurking about, i'm sure.
