I'm glad you got another bird. I think he is just nervous because he is in a new situation. Just give him lots of treats, talk to him and let him see you won't hurt him. He should come around.

Sit quietly near his cage, reading a book and casually eating nuts or crackers ... his curiosity will get the better of him sooner or later, and he will come out.

Congrats, and please post some photos after you settle him down.

Please Help

Pepeto still has not come around ..its been three whole weeks we have been talking to him, offereing him treats and trying our best to be his friend. He distrusts us immensely and hates it when we go near the cage. He jumps up and down and screams at us and in the process he has also hurt himself...please help.

Caught in the wild

We recently found out that Pepeto was caught in the wild and the people who bought him had his wings clipped very badly. We noticed some blood on the newspaper we spread at the bottom of his cage and then saw that it was from his wings.(he keeps flapping them helplessly when we go near). He must be older than he looks too. He is terrified of us. We are really worried, what are we to do next?

Keep him until his feathers are full again, then set him free. I don't think a wild bird of unknown age is going to be a very fun pet for you. Sorry to say it.

Thanks..makes us feel sad but it is the truth...I thought the aviary at our local zoo would be better for him..don't you think so...??? than in the wild??? because atleast he would be fed there and have lots of friends.

Yes, that would be better. Depending on how far from his natural range you are (I assumed he's a local species in Nepal & India), and how long he's been caged, a zoo might be safer.

You tried your best, but wild birds are only that. You need to steal an egg from a nest and hand-feed the baby, or find a breeder. Best of luck, and please keep us posted!
