Smile Hello! I am owned by my First Conure! ;)

Hello! My name is Kim and I am the new owner of a Blue Crowned Conure. We have had Paulie, we had to name him that after the bird from the movie of the same name per my girls' request, for nearly 3 days. The interesting part of us getting Paulie is that we found him. Now, finding an exotic bird in the streets of Philadelphia, PA is odd enough, but finding a Conure that was obviously looking for someone to take care of him was most odd!! My husband was playing stick-ball with my sons when he heard an odd squawk and went to investigate where it was coming from. Sitting on electrical wire above him was Paulie. My son came running into the house to get an apple. Karl tried to coax him down but he would only come as far as a tree, trying to get the apple, but would soon retreat when he couldn't reach and felt he was too close to Karl for comfort. I came around the corner to see what the commotion was all about and saw this poor bird sitting in the tree, obviously hungry. I took the apple, stretched as far as I could and he came right to me! I took him in the house and called my mom, who is a vets assistant. She told me someone lost a parrot and I called the number. They came around, but he wasn't theirs. So...we decided we would keep him for the time being until he was found by his owner, or we would simply keep him if no one was looking for him. Three days later, no owner, no information on him so he is still here. I took him to the vet yesterday where I found out what kind of bird he was. He is very healthy, has a great appetite, makes a great deal of noise and until today, a very unruly biter. I have searched the internet for anything that would help break his nasty habit of taking chunks out of finger and hands. I am now using the Dirty look and stern NO! technique that someone told me to try. I cannot believe how easily and quickly I have taught Paulie not to bite us anymore. He is still a little nippy at times, but nothing like yesterday. He loves to be out of the cage and spends most of the day out of it. He loves to be center of attention in every situation and has all the attention he could possibly need from all of us! He even sat perched on our dining room table last nite while we ate dinner and behaved! He came off the perch a couple of times to get something to eat and was quite satisfied with pasta and a little bit of meatball! At the end of dinner he decided that he wanted more and walked right into my sons plate! He had red gravy all over his feet!! Paulie was more than happy to eat some of it off his feet while I cleaned the rest, and all without him biting! We still can't believe we have this beautiful, fiesty friend. I hope to gain some valuable information and read some more funny stories like Paulies dinner fiasco as time goes. Take Care!! Kim :)

Crebain, I second that emotion!!!!!

Kim, that was such a fun story. Reminded me of the BCC I used to have. Enjoy this little bundle of energy. And give him lots of attention. Thanks for the story and welcome to BirdBoard.
