Hi everyone!! My name is Maya and I've got two loves in my life, Mika and Kano (family, friends, and bf too but they don't have wings ). So a little about me and my babies...

Me: I was born and raised in Japan for my first seven years. I'm half Japanese and half English/Irish/Scottish/German/Native American. I've been a preschool teacher for 4 1/2 years. My love for lovebirds started in 2000 when Mika's mom, Cammy, flew to my then-fiance while he was at work. Soon after that, our aviary grew to 15+ lovebirds. Unfortunately I had to move back in with my parents after the engagement was off. My mom doesn't like pets whatsoever so I had to beg and plead her to let me at least keep Mika, my very first born. I've been living in an apartment for the past 2 1/2 years now and just have two babies. I definitely want more, but I know I won't have room until I move somewhere else. I love, love, LURVE lovebirds and can talk about them and watch them 24/7. None of my friends are into birds at all, so I've had to get my "fix" through parrot forums. I've definitely learned a lot being on forums, much more than when I did my own research on-line. I can't wait to get started here!!

Mika: "Born" on 09-08-01 from mommy Cammy, a DF Dutch Blue, and daddy Red, a Creamino. I originally thought Mika was a girl (I knew nothing about sex-linked mutations) because he acted very much like a girl. Now I know he's a boy but I've kept the name because I call him my "little tranny." Hehehe. He's a Dutch Blue Edged Dilute/Greywing with the most beautiful big eyes.

Kano: He was a rescue in 2004. A family I knew found him and couldn't care for him and gave him to me. I don't know his age but he was definitely at least a year old by the time I got him. He's my little Creamino scaredy-cat. Hehe.

Anyone else here from Hawaii??



P.S. Is it just me or is this server slow...? All my other tabs are running quickly and smoothly except for this one.

Oh yeah?? I'd love for them to come out of the woodworks!! Hehe. I'm on all these parrot forums because no one I know in real life is into lovebirds or birds in general... it can definitely get lonely!! *lol* Plus, the bf can only take about a minute of me talking about birds before he tunes out.

One day, we had a six minute conversation but we had to alternate. I spent a minute talking about birds, he spent a minute talking about MMA. This went on for six minutes before we burst out laughing and couldn't do it anymore.

Same for me- no one else I know has birds, nor can they understand the fascination and the bond I have with them.

I'm online often, and I dont even get out the words "Hey guys, look at th..." anymore without them saying "Will you stop? I'm NOT interested in seeing another picture of a BIRD!"

Hahahahaha!! That's exactly what my bf says!! I'll be like, "Look at this cute baby!!" And he knows it's a bird and won't bother. *lol* Then when I'm IMing with friends, I'm constantly sending them links to cute lovebird pictures and I'm sure their on the other side of the screen rolling their eyes and ignoring it. *lol*
