Greetings from the foggy northwest
Hello!
I initially bypassed the welcome page and went straight into posting but managed to get back to it. Me and my gang are currently located up in Lakebay, Washington. My gang consists of Huey, a military macaw, Eva - a black akita/lab mix and Julio - a Golden Retriever.
I started out, initially, with dogs and horses and didn't really have much experience with birds. Until my initiation. I was working as a vet tech in a clinic in New Orleans which had a resident quaker parrot, Libby. It seemed the middle of a dog and cat clinic with half sedated predators around them wasn't the best environment and, finally, when she'd dropped her body weight and had plucked herself completely, I took her home for a "trial weekend" and kept her at home. She got her feathers back and did wonderfully. Two years ago, as I was moving out of post-Katrina New Orleans, I adopted Huey and relocated with him and my two dogs to Washington State.
Though I'm rather new to the endeavors of being owned by birds, I've spent most my life working with animals. I've worked as a vet tech, pet behavior consultant and trainer for five years before Katrina. After the storm, I received an AS degree in Assistance Dog Education from the Bergin University of Canine Studies and currently work for a non-profit prison program that takes in shelter dogs and places them as service dogs with individuals with disabilities.
But, before my novel gets too long, I'll wave and say hello!
