Talking Newbie here

Hey everyone.

My name is Marlon, I'm a 19 year old college student in Orlando. Growing up, I had the beauty of having different animals my entire life. I think the first time I handfed a lovebird was at the age of 11. I have a passion for all types of animals and since I moved into Orlando last semester from Miami, I had a horrible time getting used to not having my family and my basset hound, siberian husky,my orange tabby cat, my blue and gold macaw, 2 cockatiels and 2 white zebra finches. Since their all pretty much my parents' now, I had been having that "birdie" urge to ad another fid into my life. This time it would be mine and go with me wherever I would go and live with me for the rest of it's life no matter what happens.

This past Sunday, there was a bird fair in the Central Florida Fairgrounds. The entire week I had spent reading and researching on Timneh African Greys and I was sure I was going to buy one for myself. I had also read about all the African birds and some caiques.

Well, as I was deciding my purchase for an African Grey, I walked past a table where my eyes set upon a beautiful 3 year old Senegal sitting on a very nice lady's shoulder. I asked her how much she was but didn't really think I was going to buy her. After all, I was set on an African Grey. Well, the Senegal pretty much picked me: she climbed on my arm, sat on my shoulder and sat there so that I could scratch her head.

It's not everyday that a bird picks you. None of the African Greys I had looked at did that to me. I walked around for a good hour deciding what I was going to take as my new lifetime companion. I saw some other senegals that were only 3 months old, but as cute as they were, my heart strings weren't pulled as much as the older one I had seen earlier did. In the end, I came back for her: My Senegal beauty called Kenya (formerly Whiskey ha ha).

I'm glad to be part of this forum. I look forward to hearing from everyone and am happy to share this bundle of joy with all of you.

Sincerely,

Marlon

Hi Marlon, Welcome to birdboard. Congratulations on your new baby. You'll have to share some pics of Kenya with us when you can.
Senegals are great little birds. My mom "has" one who is staying with me. She was 8 or 9 yrs when we saw her at a birdfair. A rescue was closing and had all the birds at the bird mart. We couldn't leave without her. She's had several homes. She is handicapped. She's very small. It took her several months to become comfortable but she is just as sweet and loving as any baby sennie I've encountered.

Travieso1, I ended up getting the 3 year old one from the nice lady. =) I'm so glad I did, It's only been a day but I've had the time of my life with this little clown.
