Thanks for the updates Marilyn! I'm looking forward to more updates as we're going to get our harness soon. Pogo has had many many many trips outside and she really loves it so I'm sure Stella will love it to!

Smile Its our 5th week anniversary today!

Hi All!

Sorry its been so long since I've posted. We had to adjust to a new routine since our Stella arrived!... Its been 5 wonderful weeks! I learn more about him each day.... So far he is saying:

Wash Up (we found out he actually didn't say ONE word with his old Mom)
Shower (when he wants to bath under the kitchen faucet!)
JoeJoe (my fiancee's fathers name... they had him for 2 days before we brought him home.. so he calls my fiancee JoeJoe now LOL)

We have learned that he LOVES grapes, apples, all kinds of nuts (doh!) but doesn't like oranges, pineapple, banana chips (loves bananas) ... Now if I'm home with Stella and its just us, I'll give him his own little dinner plate and together we have dinner! He loves it when I make pasta & broccoli!).. He's just too cute... too cute I tell you! oh and soup, he loves soup!

We thought him how to "go poop" on a perch like stick while I hold a paper towel under him and he goes! We figure if we're going to take him visiting in warmer weather, we better have him trained first or we won't be invited back!

I'm curious as to what others do about the "poop" deal (LOL) when you take yours out for a visit or a stroll.... (?)

I'm so excited about taking him out with the Aviator harness. We watched the dvd that came with it and are doing all the exercises so he's used to the movements when we are ready to put it on him (like spreading his wings and counting to 3 and moving him around trying to get him used to being off balance for a few seconds)... I figure over the next 3 or 4 weeks I'm going to try it and take him to my office for the day!!! Its just too cold right now or I would take him tomorrow!

Alyx, did you get a harness yet?... I hope you're all well! I will try to make some time to poke around in here and catch up on posts!.. I think I would be ready to help out a new GCC owner at this point!... What I've learned in 5 weeks about our Stella (GCC's) is amazing! I dont know what we did before she came into our lives! I look forward to learing new stuff about him everyday....

Hugs to all! Theres some of my update! Have a great week!..

Marilyn

Hi Marilyn!! :D

I'm thrilled things are going so well for you and Stella!! I remember thinking a couple of days after Pogo arrived that my life would never be the same, and, I was right! Sounds like your a seasoned pro already.

What a schmozzle trying to buy one of those harnesses, but a long story short is I finally found a company in Canada that distributes them. Cost me 34.99 plus 3 for shipping :D But it hasn't arrived yet. Apparently it will be here by the end of the week. It's supposed to be -10 tomorrow so I guess it will be a while before we are heading outside. Ample time for us to figure this thing out I guess.

Keep in touch!!

Flight suits

I am also a new owner of a GCC... since about 6 weeks ago. I found info. online about a 'flight suit' that not only comes with a short 'leesh' but also it has a 'poop pouch'. You can use panty liners or makeup remover pads inside the suit.

I got one online from Petco, but it was a little too big for her, so I just got a size smaller for now. It took giving her time to see it, then be near it, feel it, etc. before putting it on. I didn't leave it on too long... like 5-10 minutes then tried to distract her from picking at it.

Right now we've been buying puppy pads for when she's being played with so there is something disposable for her to poo on. She gives the sign of puffing up and lifting her tail to go... or she takes a short flight off you to the ground to go.

I like the idea of the flight suit because it also doubles as a diaper, and seems less complicated to get on than a harness. They were about $25 each including shipping, and it's a nice rainbow color fabric that is soft and stretchy. It only has one 'connection' which is the velcro strip on the back..which is where the 'leesh' connects... sandwhiched between the 2 pieces of velcro.

It's going to take time to get her used to having it on, but she's getting more active while out. I have thought already about getting some cloth baby diapers to put over my shoulder, although so far she hasn't gone there.
