Talking Hello everyone!

Hello,

My name is Katerina and right now i'm doing my research of the type of bird i want, i fell in love with a Jenday Conure and i wanted him soooo badly but unfortunately im a girl who lives in New York, Brooklyn and in a apartment lol and it would break my heart if i would have to give away my bird because of the noise.
So i'm thinking about getting a Yellow sided Green Cheek Conure!
I have been looking for good websites where to ask lots of questions and do research. It would be nice if anyone who lives in New York City and owns a bird could private message me here, I have some questions regarding the climate and environment of New York City with owning a bird.
I check BirdBreeders.com and posted in their forums lol but their forums are a desert, it's been a month and my posts are still the newest ones.
Anyway i'm glad i was referred to this website by a member in yahoo's answers.com

Thank you!

Hi, Katerina! Welcome! What kind of space do you have for a bird cage, and how much out of the cage time is the bird likely to get with you? This would affect what kind of bird would be best for you! Some kinds need a LOT of attention, while others (like finches) never come out of the cage at all, but need a large cage to fly around in to be happy.

Well Razzle i don't know really what you mean what kind of space i have for a bird cage but im gonna keep it in the livingroom.
I will play with my bird on the days off i have from college and after classes and i will let him roam around my room mostly and under my supervision and also fly in the livingroom when im there. I wanna get him one of those playground things with the stairs and hoops and i will hang toys there. He will never be allowed to enter the kitchen though, we have those sticky traps for roaches.
My mom will probably play with the bird if she doesn't come home from work at 1am lol

Sounds good. What I meant was how much room do you have, so we know how big a cage you can put in your house? Some people have limited space so they have to make do with a cage that is big enough for say, a cockatiel or a conure but not for a macaw or a cockatoo or finches (which I believe need lots of flying room since they are cage birds!)

I'm guessing you're looking at a few hours a day playtime between you and your bird, somewhere between 2-4 days a week on average? Is that about right? I'm guessing a conure would be right for you, or a cockatiel. You might also like to have 1 or 2 budgies, depending on if you like their noises. They aren't loud, but they chatter constantly. Myself, I love budgie noises but not everyone agrees. ;) Some neighbors/family members could find it grating after a few months... LOL! I wouldn't go with one of the "large" birds, like a macaw or a cockatoo, because for one thing, they have a LOT more potential to cause damage if/when they bite hard, so if you don't handle it quite enough to keep it as hand tame as you're expecting and you get a surprise bite, you might rather it was from a beak that is about a half inch tall rather than a beak that is 2 or 3 inches tall! ;) If you don't have very very small children, then a more delicate bird like the really small ones, budgies, linneolated parakeets, etc, may also be a good choice for you! Good luck and please let us know what you pick!
