Smile New Macaw and Amazon Owner!

Hello I am new to this board!

I just got my blue macaw and amazon red-head and love them both!

Just want to show them off!

Here is Molly

And here is Rosie

Molly is definitely a handful, loves to play, dance, and eat. Not easy to get back in the cage! Anyone have any tips?

Rosie is great, she talks, completely hand trained, talking, and very friendly. I wish Molly would climb on my finger...but I have lots of patience.

Enjoy the pics!

Let me know what you think of them!

I think they are about 12 - 14 years old...I adopted them from another family. I really enjoy this site and hope to learn more about parrots! Need help with what to feed them...any ideas?

For a macaw diet I would check this thread: Greenwing diet . For an amazon it would be similar. You would not feed the nuts and not as much seed as amazons do not need as much fat as macaws and are prone to obesity.

I would like to steal Rosie. If I'm ever on the island....

They are beautiful birds. I'm glad you are enjoying them so much. Thank you for sharing their pictures with us.

Welcome to birdboard! Congrats on your new flock members! How long have they been with you? They are great looking birds. You're going to have a lot of fun with them. You adopted two out of my three favorite types of birds. My other fav is eclectus.
Going back in the cage.....have you tried putting a favorite treat of hers in the food bowl right before you put her in the cage? Preferably letting her see you do it. That way she has a reason to want to go back in the cage. Once she's in there, praise her a lot. Try to make being in the cage as fun as possible with some of her favorite toys in her cage. When she's in her cage talk to her, dance with her some, read a story to her. Just try different things to make the experience more pleasant.
