Smile Greetings from Italy!

Hello everyone,
I'm writing from Italy, I live in a pretty place near Lake Como..

My family had a blue fronted amazon that lived with us for 25 years! My parents got him before I was born, but honestly when I was younger I was a little scared by him. I think I was too young to know how to treat such a complicated animal...

Since december 2007 I'm a proud owner of a very aggressive blue fronted amazon that I adore. I didn't buy her, it was supposed to be a present for my father from a friend (he knew we had one before, it’s also our company logo). I end up being the one who takes care of her. We didn't know where she came from, and how old she was. Probably 3 years old. As I said she was very aggressive with everyone and she had clipped wings. I just kept taking care of her and I waited, I never forced her to do anything, and after a couple of monthes I could stroke her back for the first time. I can say it was probably the best day of my life. Now she really loves me, she let me touch her, kiss her, stroke her, but still doesn't want to come on me. And she's still aggressive with everyone else. I think she's probably scared, I don't know how she has been treated the first years of her life. Her wings grew back but she still not flying (she just did a couple of few short flight because she was scared). I’m scared she never learned to fly because she must have been kept all the time in a small cage and with her wings clipped...

One year passed and on December 2008 I brought home a baby grey. I really wanted another parrot, but honestly not so soon. I've been talking a couple of time with my avian vet about wanting an african grey, but without really planning of getting one. And one day he called me saying he had 2 baby greys! I was shocked and not prepared at all. I went to see them and... well I brought home one of course. She (it’s not sure she’s a girl actually) was very curious, not scared of anything compared to the other one. And she was brought up for the first monthes by her parents and then by the breeder. She was raised exactly like I wanted. She’s a very sweet, lively and curious bird. And she has a very strong personality too. Of course the amazon hates her (the grey is always bothering her), so I’ve a hard time keeping them together, also because both from monday to friday are staying with me in the office, so they are basically all day out of their cages.

And that’s the story. No more parrots for a while... I hope the amazon will keep getting better, and start to fly!

these are my girls:

Hello and welcome to the Bird Board. Both of your birds are beautiful. I have two birds who don't like each other either but my avian vet believes having another bird around is good for them even if they don't seem to bet along.

Italy is a beautiful country. If I lived there I would eat gelato every day..

thank you !
i agree with your vet Tom, i can say that since i got the grey the amazon is doing a little better. i was hoping that seeing the grey flying she would have a good exemple, but so far she's still not really trying to fly...
