Hi Everyone
I have another question about my 3 month old pearl cockatiel. For the first time today, he has chirped just about all day. No other sounds, just chirping. I had he/she out for awhile this morning. when I put him back in the cage is when it became almost nonstop. Is this normal behavior? A few times while he was doing this, he/she would hold his wings out a little bit from his body. I don't know the sex for sure, but the breeder told me, that he was almost positive it is a male, by his bone structure. Does anyone have any ideas on the sex of my "Sweet Pea"? |

Not many people believe that bone structure is a reliable method of sexing a bird. I agree. It sounds like your cockatiel is very bonded to you and does not want to leave you. At three months I very highly doubt that it is sexual behaviour.

S/he is just settling in, neither of mine chirp "all" day but they do have days when they flock call & chatter more.....
Do not give the fid any attention when they are being too loud for you---- even negative attention is a 'reward' for the bird.... at least the bird got to see you! If your bird primarily does one constant "chirp, chirp" and very rarely makes other sounds then it might be a female. You said the bird is a pearl... and when I asked about the sex of MY pearl tiel, I was told that pearls are more often female because it only takes 1 pearl parent to make a female pearl.... but BOTH parents have to be pearls to get a male pearl. And at the first and second molts boys 'typically' lose most of the pearl markings & end up looking like a normal grey. (first molt around 4-6mo)
