Hi everone. I'm a new member and have spent a few days checking out the forum. Seems like a nice (and knowledgable) bunch of folks. I'm thinking about getting a few birds and joining in on the fun. I don't currently have any. I live in East central Alabama, about half way between Atlanta, Ga and Montgomery Al. I'm thinking of building 3 or 4 flight cages in my basement (no windows) to house a few pair of birds. I'm looking for advise on which birds to get. After some study, I'm thinking maybe some of the grass parakeets. Mostly because they are not so noisy. They are also attractive. I would look forward to the challange of caring for my flock and making them happy and content enough to produce a family. I'm not as concerned about pet value. I would spend a lot of time with them but mostly just watching (I have a home business in an office next door to the bird room). They would seldem if ever be out of the flight. So I want something that will be happy with the company of their on kind. I'm also looking for a place to purchase the birds. I would prefer buying from a breeder or hobbyist rather than a pet shop. I visited a bird show in Atlanta last weekend. That really got me fired up! I'll quit rambling now. Thanks in advance for your advise...

Welcome to Bird Board! I do not have much experience with grass parakeets but if you are thinking of getting them I would post in the section. There are many experienced people in that section. If you want to buy from a breeder I would check BirdBreeders.com - Bird Breeders Directory of Availability and Parrot Breeders . This is a great site that lists many reputable breeders. Many of these breeders have been rated by customers and you can read their reviews. Good luck and enjoy the site!
