New to the BB

Hello All, New to the BB.
I have a question. My B&G is 20 years old.
He has become very strange acting. He has been molting.
He has been bobing his head up & down, plucking feathers, Grabbing his beak with his foot and shaking it. bites the cage, afraid he's going to break his beak. I go to feed him and he trys to bite me. ( This is a first )
He acts like he doesnt even know me anymore
Can anyone help or has anyone been through this
Thanks David

Both sexes can get hormonal. If it gets excessive the Vet can give them a shot to control their hormones. If it makes you feel better you can have your Vet run some routine blood work and grams stains to make sure that is what is going on for sure. Then you could also have them to the DNA so you can have a better idea on what to keep an eye on when the hormones do kick in.

I agree, see a vet first. A rule of thumb is to always rule out medical issues before trying to work on behavior. It is good to do it anyway because the only way to keep a bird long term is to prevent issues from becoming problems (by then it is often too late).

A DNA test is usually really cheap. I think it is always a good idea because if you have a female who ends up egg binding...you need to know what is going on and what could be dangerous and if you have a male - well, you need to know that to.

Good luck. Let us know what the vet says.

Michelle, Looks like you were correct, The Vet thinks it was hormones.
I went ahead and had the DNA test. I should know in a week or so. She thinks it's a male.
After getting back from the Vet, He has not picked one feather. And has changed his outlook on life also, maybe it was the needle the Vet had.
She said Tobin looks to be fine.
Thanks for all you guy's help.

Glad Tobin had a good vet visit. Please keep us posted when the DNA comes back.
