Wink Hello! (From an American living in Canada)

I am new here and just wanted to officially say "Hello!"

I live in beautiful BC Canada, but was born and raised in California and miss it quite a bit.

I have a 4mos old hen named "Patience" and my husband owns a 6wk old Male whom he calls "Sir Kermit"

I look forward to reading and sharing a bit on this board of bird lovers. I have always bird watched in the great outdoors, but I never imagined one day I would own one as a companion. Patience stole my hear the moment I brought her home, it was really sort of amazing how fast we bonded.

If you would like to see photos of Patience, go to Patience the Parrot be sure to click "previous" and "next" at the bottom of the screen to see all the photos. I am sort of camera crazy. My kids got the brunt of it for years..and now our birds are in the limelight.

Nice to be here and thank you in advance for any welcomes I receive!

Welcome! Loved your pictures, Patience is very lucky to have you! I especially liked the one of her and the stuffed parrot!

Thank you! I love that picture too. My daughter actually picked it up on vacation and loans it to me for Patience sometimes. If you hold down the tongue the bird chirps and flaps his wings. Patience can do it all by herself and she loves watching it move.

Pretty bird! I'm a native Californian too, but don't miss it! Have been living in Mexico for almost 10 years.

Hi Chapala, I just miss the consistent weather (70-80F in San Jose). I also miss the smell of
eucalyptus trees and looking at all the big Oak trees. I miss the lemon and orange trees too. BC is wonderful though...its much more green and lots of outdoor things to do.

You own 5 birds? Everyone on this board seems to have so many birds! I feel like just owning Patience and Kermit is going to keep me too busy. I want to take them out of their cages all day and so far I am spoiling them rotten. I can see how you want to just keep getting more. I am very intrigued by African Greys. My friend has two and they are so animated and talkative.

Thank you Matt, how many birds do you own? A few I bet. Can a person just own one? *lol*

I was from Santa Cruz (27 years), so close by. Our summers were so chilly and foggy though, not like San Jose. Here the weather at 5,000' is just about perfect, lots of sun, not too hot or too cold, no frost, year round gardening, and yes, tropical fruits! We have a huge mango tree, papaya, guava, loquat, orange, lime, and loads of flowers.

Three of our birds are re-homes, all are tame except the Amazon who was never handled or out of her cage for many years, on a terrible diet. She is a very fearful bird but is feeling more and more comfortable and now will eat out of my hand.

B.C. is beautiful! Enjoy your new birds. Two is a great number and they'll get lots of attention.

I spent many Summer days in Santa Cruz. I can now blame all that wonderful sun exposure for my tough and aged face.

You sure make Mexico sound nice. I have never been before, I am not much of a traveller I'm afraid.

Anyway, nice to meet you and I will be looking to see any pictures of your birds I can find. I love photos!
