Hello hello from Florida!
Hello. I am Chantel, and I have two cockatoos, a moluccan and a new mobrella, both males. Paco is the moluccan, 3 years old and he is the sweetest bird in the world, and my baby. Larry Bird is at least 15 and he is the mobrella (umbrella and moluccan mix) He is very sweet too, and so funny. For some reason Mobrella's tend to hop rather than walk. It is very odd but so adorable. Since he is a hybrid, he does have some behavior issues, like being very stubborn and being confused as to what bird they actually are. Larry was owned by a very nice lady, but for some reason Larry hated her. He would dive bomb her if she got even close to him. She cried and cried when I left with him but she knew he needed to be with someone who could handle him. When I went to meet him he stepped right up to me and tipped his head for some scritches. His mom said he had never done that, ever in the 10 years she has had him.
I also have about 120 chinchillas, we breed some of them but mostly do rescue work and end up keeping them. Haha. I also have 3 hedgehogs and 2 gerbils, all pet store rescues. I grew up in Minnesota, but moved to Florida 5 years ago for law school. I don't have many hobbies besides my animals, as you know they take up a lot of time! I am so glad to find this board and to meet all of you. |

Hello. I'm glad to meet you. Larry's mom is a really good person to put his interests above her own. Do you have any idea why he would go straight to you after so determinedly rejecting her?

Thank you for the welcome! Larry Boy definitely has some issues, he goes round and around the cage with his head tilted to one side, seemingly happy. He coos constantly and puts his head on the ground wanting you to pet him. I don't know exactly what this behavior is, but we will be seeing a vet this week to make sure nothing physical is wrong, and hopefully we can get to the bottom of this. It is adorable, but it does not seem like normal bird behavior. It is almost like a dog I knew who had a neurological disorder where he would run in tiny circles to the left, he could not walk straight or to the right. It is like his brain is confused as to what to do. Interesting! I will figure out how to get videos up for you to see. |
