Tinkerbell & Sonny's Mom says hi!

Hello everyone!

I've been enjoying reading the threads & look forward to making some new friends!

I have a 7 mos old budgie (american),Sonny & a 9 week old 'tiel, Tinkerbell. I also have a Princess of Whales hatchling 1 1/2 week old, which the breeder will have till it's weaned. But I'm very excited about all of my babies!

Sonny just fell in love with Tinkerbell from the get go. and then started biting me! I'm guessing because he's jealous of Tink being with me. Tinkerbell likes Sonny, but has really bonded with me. Sonny came from (I hang my head in shame) petsmart and wasn't tame at all, although never bit me till Tink came, a couple of months later.

Tinkerbell came from M&T Exotic birds in Frederick MD. His breeder Mary was wonderful and he is so tame and socialized and learns very quickly. he came to me knowing the step up command. and has learned to "shake" and "come to momma" recently.

I love my babies - I've posted pics of them, a couple under flock, and Tinks in the cockatiels. let me know what you think?

Tracy

Tracey:

You live in MY neighborhood! Yup. If you live in Pasadena, then you probably know where the malls are located. I live in Millersville, about 7 minutes from the Jumper's Mall (Pasadena Crossroads).

Don't know if you are aware of this, but there is a bird show at the Earleigh Heights Fire Department tomorrow. Maybe we'll see each other.

I have never met Mary but I've had the pleasure of talking to her on two occasions. She is really terrific. You're gonna love the POW. Michelle (smallonion) has a beautiful POW and lives in England. She's coming back to America in the near future.

Red face A girl? Really?

Monica - the vet had told me it was definetly a boy. the cere is a blueish white, but I have heard they can change. What made you think Sonny's a girl? If he is a she that would help explain a few things!

Wollowbirdy - thanks for the welcome!

The Outlaw - How about that! We are practically neighbors! I live over by Riveria Beach. Yes, Mary is wonderful, I love her. She send me video clips and pics of the babies so we can see how they grow. and we e-mail each other alot. Being a sorta 1st time bird owner that has helped alot. (we had a budgie while growing up)

Bird show! what time! I had heard there used to be one there, but wasn't sure if they still were. I'm glad to hear that there is something close by. I'm looking for a good Avian vet close by too. Any recommendations? What's your name, I would like to go tomorrow, maybe we will see each other!

Thanks for the replies!

Yes, Sonny looks like a female! The majority of healthy males have a blue to purplish-blue cere. Some mutations will give males pink ceres. Females will have white ceres with tinges of blue and/or tan, to a crusty brown cere. Some females have been known to have a full blue cere like the males however, untill they reach breeding age where it normally turns a crusty brown color. Males will NEVER have white on their ceres!

As far as Outlaw, that's Nancy! She's a great person!

Smile Monica,

Let me see if I can figure out how to put a pic of Sonny on here so you can get a better look at her? there is whitish at the top her the cere then blue on the bottom. Gosh, and Itried so hard to pick out a male! gesh!

So even when they are young the males will have a bright blue to purple cere?
thanks for the info. See, I really need to find an avian vet. not just someone who sees birds!

Nancy does seem to be wonderful! I hope I get to meet her tomorrow!

Thanks!

New pics of Sonny

I added some new pics of Sonny in the budgie group.

Sonny needs to learn to talk more slowly so I can understand & he/she can tell me what she is! But Sonny does act alot like a little girl sometimes.

I couldn't figure out how to put the pic in the thread????

Young males will have a pinkish cere that may be purplish as well though turns to blue. Budgies do normally talk quite quickly! lol

In this photo below, you can see two budgies. The one on the left is a young female, while the one on the right is a mature male. If you can notice, the females cere is white with a tiny tinge of blue. This is somewhat similar to Sonnys! Sonny just happens to have more blue than the one in this photo.

As far as posting photos, you need the [ img ] & [ /img ] surrounding the photo, without spaces. It'll look like this

(img)http://feistyhome.phpwebhosting.com/budgie21.jpg(/img)

though instead you are using the brackets, not the parantheses.
