Hi

Hi,
I am new and thought I'd introduce myself. I live on the Gold Coast, Australia. I am currently owned by one Galah called Stumpy. He is a wild rescue-he was hit by a car but is now as sweet as can be! (some of the time lol)

I am currently saving up for 2 macaws (B&G and GW), which over in Australia are very expensive :aiwebs_01. Which is a shame. How many people on this forum are from Australia?
I hope to hear from you soon,
Regards,
Dan

Hi Maverick! Welcome to the board! I'm from Brisbane and what Crebain is trying to say is Toowoomba. For some reason, the Yanks on here are amused by the name Toowoomba!

Are you in Parrot Society? I am but rarely go to meetings, I may go tonight though. Macaws are horrendously expensive here, I would love to have one as all my best friends on here have them and rave about them. They seem to start at $8000! :icon_eek:

Sounds like what you hear yelled in triumph just before getting hit with a poisoned blow-gun dart. :aiwebs_01

Maverick, think some people may appreciate a story or some details about your galah! One member here is having trouble deciding to keep their wild caught ringneck, and if your too is any part sweet or cuddly, anything that shows that Stumpy trusts you then this could be quite inspirational to this one person!

Envious though that you have a galah! I've become attracked to them quite a lot and would love to some day live with one! You'll love the macaws however, especially the blue and gold!

Lol yes Crebain, I have been to Toowoomballahoolyagaroo. It is good to hear from some fellow Aussies :icon_smil. o I'm not with the Parrot Society Tiki. Yes they are expensive... But they are worth every penny . I will be getting mine (after saving) from North west Parrot avairies, Tiki have you heard of them? They are in Brisbane.
Yes Stumpy (his wing was amputated) trusts us... I'll have to talk to the member with the ringneck .
Thanks for the warm welcome,
Regards,
Dan.

Hi, seems like macaws are extreeamly expensive every ware. It shocks me that so many people get them and then dont want to keep them. There are 3 in my local news paper right now for sale with cage for like $900.00 which is cheep for a B&G or any other macaw. I hate when people get an animal or bird and then just dont want it any more. I called and that is the case in all of these. the person has more dollars then cents.

VeraT, macaws in Australia cost much more than in the U.S. B&G macaws in australia cost 7000 $, is thats about $6000 U.S or so isnt it? And a greenwing will cost you more here than a hyacinth in the U.S.
And yes, it is depressing about the people getting rid of their birds, their getting rid of them and I desperatley want them! lol. But seriously I hate it when people do that too.

ROTFLMAO! :icon_lol:

Thanks, Crebain! Now I will never be able to hear the name Toowoomba again without picturing that visual in my mind! You have ruined me for life!

Maverick, last night a breeder told me he heard of B&G's going for $7000 as well. He had a pair of Caiques for $14,000. To put that into perspective, that is about the cost of a low end economy car over here!

That is a lot of money. But its worth it IF you are going to love and keep the bird. Thats why I cant understand people getting one and then not keeping or caring for it. Even a wild rescue should be cared for and loved. There is a show on animal planet channel ( they have your Steve and Terry Irwin on it all the time- love them!!!) called animal rescues that had a story about these people who had a macaw in a crate and told everyone to just kick it if it made noise. I could have strangeled them happily.
But to better things I wish you luck in getting yours and welcome to the board.
