Buruku the Birdle

I have a huge passion for animals, and birds hit that special spot in me, bird-watching is one of my big hobbies, so naturally when I got my first parrot I fell in love.

When I was about 16, my mom brought home a Jenday Conure. I remember walking in and seeing this huge thing(cage) with a sheet over it, and I peeked in and saw the little guy sleeping. Love at first sight! My mom claimed that it was her bird, and was going to be her new little side-kick.

As predicted by me, my mom lost interest and even made plans to take Captain Jack (that was his name) back to the petshop within the first week of owning him! I begged her not to! When we first got Jack, he had a bad bad habit of biting everyone's ears and sometimes fingers. The rest of my family reaaaally didn't like that! But I really grew fond of him, and with my patience and lots of affection, it didn't take long for him to stop biting people's ears, and he was the sweetest little guy! (I could finally stop wearing hats when I had him on my shoulder!)

I had never previously owned a parrot, but whenever acquiring a new animal, research is always the first thing I do, so I made sure Jack got everything he needed. (And he turned out to be a pretty spoiled boy.) I had so much love for him, so many wonderful memories, he really felt like my baby.

Unfortunately, while I was away from home my mom made a grave mistake, which resulted in him passing away. It happened 3 years ago, and I still cry about it.

I currently do not have a parrot, because I know my situation is not well suited for one. (I move around a lot, and I do not have sufficient time or funds) I only want to get another bird when I know I can give it what it needs. So, I spend a lot of my time watching youtube videos of parrots, hahahaha.

So, I am joining this community, so that I can learn some more and hopefully make some friends so I have people to talk to when I do get another. (I'm set on a Goffin 'too) I look forward to talking with other people who dedicate so much of themselves to the care and happiness of our feathered-friends.

(I know this was long, but thanks for reading!)

Well, I am not sure how old you are, but it seems from your post that you are young.

I must commend you on being so responsible as to know that at this time you cannot commit to taking care of a parrot.

So many people bring home additions without doing the necessary research to find out how to properly take care of their charges.

Welcome to the board. I am sure that you will find many interesting posts here from many knowledgeable and devoted members.

Thanks for the welcoming, I'm 21. I don't know if that's older or younger than you imagined. =)

Hi & welcome!! Good job on doing your research and knowing that you arent in the right place right now to have a Goffin. Birds are very demanding animals, some more than others, so its good that you are really waiting until you have time for them. This is a great place to learn everything you possibly can. If you have any questions this is the place to go!

Welcome again & have fun looking and learning = )

Welcome! Cockatoos can be very demanding so waiting is probably good as you said. Enjoy the site!
