I have been working with birds for over 10 years and finally have an aviary at home now!
I am receiving my first occupants in 3 days (a pair of Indian Ringnecks). I would like to take in unwanted/surrendered parrots as there are so many out there, but having just started with this out of my home, am having trouble locating any. I know they are out there, as there are 2 groups I am in contact with. Wendy Huntbatch runs World Parrot Rescue on Vancouver Island and Ray and Val run Parrot Island in Peachland.
I have called my aviary Winged Buddies and will work with those that need rehab/medical care. I am part of a network with 2 other people in my area and all we want is to stop the abuse/neglect of large companion birds and to educate people about them as well. I guess having space is a good thing in light of what I am trying to accomplish.
I'm sure I will find these forums very helpful and am glad to be a part of birdboard!
Take care all!
