LOL!!! Your little Sun could certainly have affected Little Sexy's behaviour. I rarely have trouble getting my birds to eat fruit and veg as all my other birds go crazy for them! The 10 minutes of total silence after I give out the fresh food platters is bliss for the feather dusters and me!

Bottle brush flowers are a wonderful treat for lories as are many others. I tend to give small twiggy and leafy branches and they all go wild with the nectar and then strip the leaves and the twigs. Lillipilli is another wonderful 'free' treat that grows everywhere in NZ. They love the berries and the flowers and when they chew the leaves it also leaves a wonderful scent around the house!

I guess birds are a little like most things, the more you put in, the more you get out. Sounds like you're putting a lot of effort into Little Sexy's rehab and I'm sure you will be rewarded with years of love and companionship. <hugs>

All the best,

Heather

Since a few of us live in the united states, I DID find people that sell bottle brush bushes for growing, most of them are out of California. I haven't looked up Lillipilli before.. what a funny name :D

This next spring/summer I am planning on buying some bottlebrush for growing outside, moving inside in the fall and growing under lights. That way the FIDs will have something fun to rip apart and eat.
SO, if anyone in MN is reading this... in the spring, I'll be placing an order if anyone else wants to join in to split up shipping costs

Funnily enough, bottle brush is the tree i mentioned that grows out the front that I heard lorikeets love but he won't try it yet. I bet if Pagan, my sun, tried it he'd be in. Thanks for all the input, you've set my mind at ease that I must be a good mummy. Birdboard rocks

So glad we could help Banshee. <hugs>

Bottlebrush is easy to grow Swanwillow. You should find that a couple of plants will give you plenty of foliage and flower for your lory. Lillipilli grows like a weed here in NZ but I am not sure of the correct Latin name for it. I will check in Botanica and let you know what I find out. The other thing you can try is Apple Wood. My lot love anything from an apple tree (particularly the quakers!) and it is quite safe.

All the best,

Heather
