Lorikeet Aviary?

Hello! I'm new here and I want to get a few Lorikeets when I have my own house, so I was wondering what size of aviary would I need to keep several Lorikeets in? Thanks!

There are many sizes of lories and the ones you select will dictate the size of the aviary. Are you prepared to feed them their (very expensive) special diet and give them their other special needs?

Which lories are you considering?

I will bow out of this thread and let the rainbow experts answer your questions now. I have some experience with red lories but none with rainbows.

hi,
i try to help, lories and lorikeets are best kept in pairs. this is due to their very aggressive nature. i got a nip by a rainbow and got a bloody finger, the bird seems normal but it just turn around and got my finger while i was feeding it.
a good size aviary for these birds is 9'x3'x3'ht. it should be the suspended kind meaning the bottom of the cage should be raise from the ground. this is to allow for easy cleaning.
half inch square quality galvanised steel is good for construction of aviary. i had lots of problem with rodents before and you'll be surprise how small an opening they can go through.
the noise level for these birds can be high. check neighbours

I think your meaning a huge walk-in type aviary... As in a 20foot one?
I saw on a website where they kept two pairs in a very large room, a very long room. I think lories and lorikeets are just too aggressive to be kept in groups that aren't in HUGE rooms so that theres very little aggression.

I'd say make a bird room, with individual cages. You can take them all out at once, let them play supervised... and be ready to break up fights!

i have heard that colony of eight to ten lorikeets are housed in aviary 50'x10'x8'ht. and are doing fine but it is until something upset this balance maybe lost or addition of new birds. success usually depends on everything being the same (if successful in the first place). colony aviary are not practical and wise to attempt for lories as they are too aggressive.
check out size of Lory Loft- singapore jurong bird park video here.

ok, thanks guys! I didn't know that lorikeets were so aggressive. is it only the rainbows that are aggressive or are all lorikeets aggressive? If i got the birds when they were young and put them together, would they grow up and be fine together or would they eventually turn to be aggressive towards each other?

swanwillow, yes i am talking about a huge walk in aviary (indoor).

What size could I keep about 5-10 lorikeets in (w/out everybody attacking each other every moment? can different species of Lories/lorikeets be kept together?
