My Swainsons Rainbow Lorikeet eats a nector mix that I put together from organic baby food mixed with organic vegetable juice and organic fruit juice. Additionally, she steals dried fruit and nuts from my parrot's bowls as I am filling them for the other birds. She flies almost as well as my tiel, which is quite impressive. I think that all lorikeets are very athletic, playful, hop across the floor, and love to hang upside down and p[lay with their toys. Ayla is actually getting a bit chubby -- probably from her theiving nuts. She also loves to munch on whole baby sweet pea pods. Her vocalizing includes initating my other birds, and practicing speaking English, but it comes out very garbled. She makes me laugh, even when I'm not in the mood to laugh.

"A bird is the only pet that will ever tell you I love you."
That's not true- I taught my dog to say it. ;)

He's been here for about 7 days now, and I figure if there were any serious health issues, they would have emerged by now - like he would have died or deteriorated somewhat.

First off this statement is absoulutly not true and you need to keep this bird seperated from your other fids for a minum of 30 days and most vets will tell you 30-45!! You have already found one healthissue to be concerned about - his weight. Dont risk your other birds and put him in a different room straight away!

Now, other than that what everybody else has told you is good advise and thats cool you saved the little guy!! Good luck, keep us posted and we want pics
