Well, sit down and make a pros and cons list of buying either bird. In the end you have to go with your heart and what feels best for you and your current situation (and other birds). But it would be nice to have another Lory owner around!

Buddy and I had so much fun tonight. I finally got him to get onto the bed with me to play around. He ran all over the bed, on me, and over me. LOL He would run up and rub against my arm, then tilt his head to the side and say "whaaats uuupppp?!" (like those birds in the Bud light commercial LOL) He was really into licking my fingers tonight. His tongue is just so cool. It's really long (which kind of freaked me out when I first got him. Reminded me of a lizard. LOL) But it's really soft and it kind of tickles when he's running it over my fingers and my nails. I'm just amazed at how quickly our relationship has progressed since I really started interacting with him hands on. I can't wait to see where were are a few months from now!

its really hard to choose between the two. i have much more experience with gw's cause we are always raising them. i think right now as far as space and money, the lory would be the better fit, but i have alot of research to do!! when my friend had the lories, i had a blast playing with them, they were so much fun. i had no idea at that time that they had the little brush tongues, so when the little bristles came out, i freaked out!! lol, i did not expect that to happen. they do feel pretty neat though :) im gonna try to talk to the breeder some more and ask some more Q's and ill think about it some more :)

btw...when are you gonna post pics of your new guy??

Thanks! I've been feeding Buddy - Avico's Lory Life Powder (available to him at all times) I mix in some Lory pellets by Pretty Bird (but he plays with these more than he eats them). He gets fresh fruits/veggies at least 1x a day, some days I sprinkle some Avico Lory Life Nectar on them. Every once in awhile I mix up the nectar according to the directions on the container and offer it to him. I also give him a bit of the things I feed the other birds - birdie breads, rice, beans, pasta, cooked veggies etc. (I don't offer these every day) I have different fruits I blended into a liquid with a few veggies added to them and some cuttlebone mixed in. I froze the mixture in an ice cube tray, so I can just take one out when I want to feed him some and defrost it in the microwave. Sometimes I add some organic applesauce to it before feeding it.

So have you talked anymore with the breeder who has the baby available?

Yea, actually i spoke with both breeders. one of them has the baby thats already weaned, and i think its kinda soon to get him :( the second breeder told me that she has a pair thats on eggs right now, and she usually sells the babies to the bird store, but if i wanted to buy one of her babies, she could wean him for me. this lady is also cheaper, and its gonna take a while for the baby to be ready. i think im gonna go with that lady instead of the one who has a weaned baby right now. it will give me some more time to read up on lories as well.

so exactly how messy is your lory?? ive heard the horror stories but others tell me they arent that much messier than other parrots, lol.

I don't think he's messier really, it's just the mess is more wet and sticky. If you just do a little every day, I don't find it that hard to keep up with. So I just change out his tray papers, wipe and dry the tray and give the bars a quick wipe down every day. With the other birds - I can go 2 or even 3 days before changing out the papers and wiping down the tray and the cage bars. (well, depending on what I've fed them!) I keep a plastic shower curtain liner on the wall behind Buddy's cage and I put plastic carpet runners under/around his cage. (actually I do this for almost all my cages) The mess as the 1 thing I was a little scared of at first - just because that's the big thing you hear about Lories. But it really hasn't been bad at all.

I'm so excited for you! Let me know when you make a final decision!

i think im gonna go with the lady who has eggs right now. but i told her i didnt really wanna give her a deposit until the babies have hatched and she knows they are doing well. i dont like the idea of sending money to someone i dont know well that just has eggs, lol.

thats what my other friend says about the lories' messes. i think im gonna take the plunge and get a lory :) LOL i really loved the chattering lories :)

congrats! I like the looks of the chattering, MORE PICS!!! need the fix!

my favs are the goldies, they are just so cute and little and adorable.

Hyper, fun, and balls of.. well.. hyper, and fun.

I use blankets around my cage, just throw them in the washer when they get too terribly nasty. I also feed lory life nectar/powder, and Blueberry really prefers the powder-she likes to mix her own. Shes also a bit spoiled, and won't eat whole fruits, I have to chunk them really tiny or puree them.

I just love how she screams as shes playing upside-down from her toys, swinging to and fro from toy to toy!
