Question A black Lory??

I have a question. I was just in a petstore in KC and saw a beautiful black lory. The girl working would not tell me the price and said that he was extremely rare! How rare is this beautiful little bird?? What is a reasonable price for him. They also had a Sun Conure for $850. It was the nippiest little thing ever. Thanks for the help.

The balck lory is not a very common bird seen in the pet store but they are around. They are really neat birds and LOVE the water! We had some at the bird store I used to work at and if the water was on in the sink they would literally dive off you and into the water. very comical birds and you can't really appreciate their color until you see them in natural light. The feathers then have a beautiful sheen if multicolors.
The Duyvenbodes is also in the same family as the Black, but their feathers are actually brown with either an orange or yellow coloring.
I believe the black lory would go for around 900 dollars, but it would be more expensive if it was a pet shop - probably close to twice that amount.
The balck lory is also one of the lories that does require nectar in its diet.

Lories are absolute treasures to behold!!! I once handled a black lory a few years ago in Florida. It was in a glass cage with an open top (the petstore still has open top tanks to keep their small to medium sized birds, and babies in). It was such a clown, always on the go, and if you tried to put him down he'd hang upside down and reach for something instead!!! A real sweetheart! If I remember correctly it was going for $600???

As for that bird that was going for $850, I'd assume it would be a golden conure, although that's pretty cheap for that type of bird...

Nope! It was just a simple little sun conure. That was obviously over priced. I don't even want to talk about the price on the african gray!! Thanks for the advice!

Black Lories have come down in price over the past year & can usually be picked up from a breeder now for around 600-650.
