liveliest lorikeets-lets chat

We are just a regular old bunch of chatterboxes, aren't we? I love Blueberry, shes just the funniest little bird.

Does anyone else let their lories/keets out with other birds? I've been letting Blueberry out with my ekkie Quana, and I must say, I was afraid of the size at first thinking that Quana would pick on Blueberry.

Now I know better

But Blueberry has been going through a 'don't get near me, I don't want you, leave me alone' phase, and its been dragging ON and ON and ON. Its frustrating at times, makes me want to throw in the towel. Don't worry, I'm still working on her as a pet, but its just frustrating sometimes.

I gave her a big 3x3x2 foot cage, all to herself. I don't BELIEVE, well, yeah, I do believe how much room of it she uses... ALL OF IT! wholy cow batman!

I haven't let Buddy (yellow backed chattering Lory) out with my other birds. I've had him in the living room, while some of the birds are out of their cages, but haven't let him get close to any of them. Actually, we had to spend a few days at my Grandparents' house (ice storm, no electricity for 3 and a 1/2 days). We took all 9 birds with us and they stayed in their travel cages, on top of the pool table while we were there. When we would let them out for a bit (only 2 at a time for the most part), if any of the birds came near Buddy's cage, he was definitely not happy about it. But he was pretty unhappy about the whole situation, so not sure how he would react here at home. I'm not sure I want to find out. LOL But most of my birds are quite a bit smaller than he is. I know of another Lory owner who says 1 of his Lories and his conure are smitten with one another. Can't remember which Lory it is though. I think he has 3 or 4.

Sorry you're going through a rough time with Blueberry at the moment. Hopefully it's just a phase and it will pass soon. I don't remember - how old is she and how long have you had her? I've only had Buddy since Sept., but so far, we're getting along really well. We're still learning to read one another (some of his behaviors throw me off!) but we're definitely bonding.

Do you have any pics of her cage set up? Would love to see them. Yes, I believe she uses every inch of cage space! Lories are like the energizer bunny, they just keep going and going. LOL

hmm, I'm debating on finding her a new home now cause of it. We had some friends over the other night, and she was having a BLAST with them, playing like how she used to with us.
She'll be 1 in January. I feel horrible that she feels that she can't do that with us. I may have already found her the perfect home with someone with time to spare

I dont have a lorikeet but i live in Australia and there are these birds that gang up and chase birds away and pick on them (stupid mickey birds grr) and the only birds they wont chase are the lorikeets cos they know the lorikeets will give them a good bite if they try anything lol.

My lorikeet loves my other birds- my two tiels and my budgie. If I put her on the tiels/budgie cage, she does anything she can to get in and chase the budgie. If she catches her, she'll hold on with one foot and preen the budgie like crazy!!! wEiRd...

ps. urgh I hate those mickey birds. I always call them Noisy minors though. I hate the sounds they make- I saw some thump a wattlebird to the ground and jump on it and start pecking at it while pinning it down-I had to rescue it! Poor thing.

My african grey and red lory have been the best of pals for 15 years. They preen each other and run around. Sometimes they will get in a scruff or two, but never anything serious. Mostly my grey putting my lory in his place. My lory is recooperating from surgery so I haven't let them play together (just to be on the safe side) and my grey just stares in his cage and tries to put her head through the bars for him to preen.
