Diet help

My lory has liver disease of some sort, I am waiting on the biopsy of his liver to find out exactly what it is and what extent. In the meanwhile, I have instructions to cut out completely all iron and protein in his diet. I just saw his lory life is 13% protein. So I cannot give him his lory life. I know I can feed him fruit. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to feed my bird?

Do a search on google for homemade lori diets- otherwise there might be a few old posts on here about homemades. Usually it includes apples, vitamin supplements, calcium supplements etc. If you live in Australia, or have access to native flowes you can feed him wattle, hybiscus or gravillia... also mango, banana, apple sauce, scrambled egg yolk. I'm so sorry yours has a liver disease. Loris can get an iron storage disorder too- that might be the problem? I hope it all goes well and you can treat him!

His liver samples are awaiting biopsy results as I type. One of the things they are testing for is iron storage. Thanks for the tips!

Nix on adding egg to your lory's diet right now, since your (certified) avian vet has said NO PROTEIN. I love the suggestion in the other thread to make a fruit smoothie!
