scaly claw

Can anyone out there help me with my rainbow lorie. I have had him now for almost 10 years and he has develped a scaly yellowish bumpyish looking claw. I asked my bird specialist and he thougt it might be a fungus infection. I had been giving him the antifungal medicine he gave me for quite some time but it never cleared it up. Then I read online that it could be a mite problem under the skin. I got some medication that is for the treatment of scales on the claws caused by mites but haven't begun using that yet. Everything I read on the bottle sounds so dangerous for the bird and you must use it with great caution. I don't want to poison my sweet bird but I'd like to clear up his problem so it doesn't get worse. It doesn't seem to bother him at all. Please advise. Thank you, srombird

Doesn't sound normal. I would definitely schedule an appointment with your avian vet.

Get a second opinion if you can. Lorikeets generally are not prone to scaley mite, your guy may be an exception of course.
I've used a treatment with the ingredients benzyl benzoate and liquid paraffin successfully on a friends budgie who has severe scaley face and leg. This poor little guy had been neglected as they simply didn't know what to do, yes I did hold my tongue. Just be cautious, but really I would get a second opinion before starting anything.
