My New Babies!

Hi Guys,

Just thought you might like to see my new babies. Well, they're not all babies but they're all MY babies!

A week ago today I picked up my first Scaley Lory called Squirt. He was starting to pull out his own tail as his owners could no longer give him the attention he was used to. Happy to report that he is now fine and dandy and settling in really well!

Then today, I collected a breeding pair of Musk Lorikeets. They are adorable even though they aren't very friendly. They will (hopefully) be breeding some babies that I can handrear in the near future. Musks are pretty unusual here in NZ so I feel very lucky to have them.

Last but not least are the two rainbow babies that I pulled today. They are 12 days old and cute as buttons! They will be hand reared for the next few weeks so I will keep you posted on their progress.

All the best,

Heather

Why thank you Tommaso, I will keep you posted. For the record, 24 hours in and they have turned into little piggies! They really are the lovliest babies to hand rear and they even make the early mornings and late nights worth it!

All the best,

Heather

Thanks, I think they're adorable little bundles. I will try and take another pic tomorrow as they are just starting to get their blue heads now. At this stage I always find it hard to believe what they will grow into!

All the best,

Heather

At last I've had a chance to take some more photos of the real babies. Are you surprised how far they've come in such a short time?

All the best,

Heather

PS Excuse the mess, we just had lunch!

They are the most gorgeous birds to hand-rear. They are big enough to make the actual hand-feeding relatively easy and weaning is a breeze as you merely start adding nectar mix to their cage at around 6 weeks. They usually have a go at bathing in it in the first few days ( ) but other than that they eat it and then go for the fruit and veg. Totally adorable. I'll keep you posted.

All the best,

Heather
