Anyone know this?

I keep coming up with different information. What do you all think the life span of a lory is in captivity? I'm not sure if it is different for Lorikeets than Lories. I want to know the life span of a Lory in captivity. Can anybody help me out?

Thanks,
Lisa

I THINK Lorikeets are smaller and have a long thin tail. Lories are bigger and have a short flat like tail.

My Lory/Lorikeet books say that with the proper care and diet (very low iron foods) they can live to be 35 years plus....Monkey is about 2 and a half and Freanchy is 1 and a half...their baby is so cute

Heres some pics of their baby...

WOW! I didn't know rainbows could live to 100!!! That's scary, I don't want to leave Ashling alone in the world if she outlives me!! haha... could you get any more information on that 100 year old please please please? Diet, lifestyle, cage, toys etc?
Lory generally refers to a bird with a short tail, while lorikeets have a long tail and there are many different species with different sizes and lifestyles, but my book says they live from 8-25 years. I find this is wrong lol but that's my 2 cents worth.

I am utterly shocked at over 100, where did you see that written? No, I hate to be the bringer of bad news, but lories and lorikeets typically have shorter lifespans than other companion parrots...more like 15-25 years maximum. Rainbow Lorikeets typically live to be between 15 and 20, while a small lorikeet like a Goldie's lives to be more like 12-16. It's the bigger lories like Black Cappeds, Chatterings, etc. that might make it to 25. My lory breeder friend just had one of her Duskies pass away at 20, and her favorite lory is now 15 so she's worried he's nearing the end of his life, though he's still very healthy. For many, the diet often limits their life, they really need to get a diet with low iron (so a quality commercial nectar mix like Nekton or Lory Life) plus lots of fresh raw vegetables and fruits. Never pellets or seed!!!

My lory just died at 16, I don't know if you all remember me posting about Little Bit. He died Tuesday, and I am just so devastated, I always read they could live to be 30. I was just wondering what you all knew about their life spans.

LGood22573, im si sorry i cant imagine my babies being gone my thoughts and prayers are with you, about lory/lorikeet toys i would recomend easy to wash toys like stainless steel/plastics/beads. i dont recommend cotton toys because they are so hard to wash. As far as cages i like cages with horizontal bars the best because they can get around easier.
