Lory egg disappeared?!?

Hey, i have a pair of rainbow lorikeets and they laid one egg in their nest box. 1 week later, the egg was gone. So i checked the nest box a few days later and it was still gone. The birds were no longer in their next box. I never saw it in the bottom of the cage. So what could the lories had done to the egg?

Also, how can u get a lorikeets to lay more eggs in one clutch?
How can you get lorikeets to eat mealworms?

Is it possible they destroyed or ate the egg? Other parrots do.

LOL, Im sorry to laugh at this one but I cannot help it. Did you think it would come back? Im not trying to be mean, I just thought it was cute. They probably ate it. Are they new parents? It doesnt mean they are bad, they could have accidentally broken it and then they ate it. Or...do you keep them outside? If so it could have been a snake. Certain species LOOK for nests and eggs in the night. It sometimes takes new parents a few tries to get it right. Fill me in with more info on your birdies.

Lorikeets i find are clumsy in the nest box, my pair laid 3 eggs and only 1 hatched, they crushed the other 2 eggs....you cant get them to lay more eggs only they can decide that. Also try adding about 4 inches of alphalfa hay (i dont know if i spelled that right) to give the future eggs a better chance since it will cushin them....When feeding insects such as meal worms i rinse them well i then give them a hot bath (dip them in boiling water for about 10 seconds as they need to be dead prior to feeding) sprinkle powder nectar and they should eat them, some may take longer to accept them.

They may benefit from a special box. There are nest boxes with a "landing pad" per say, inside. Kinda shelf entrance where they can go in and stop before going down to the eggs and/or dad can sit on it and feed the hen without going down to he eggs.

Could it be rats or mice? They take the egg WHOLE back to their burrow, and would have scared the parents from going back into the box, as they'd feel trapped.
My rainbow LOVES mealworms and hooked into them as soon as a offered her one! She chews and sucks and licks the juices out of them and leaves the dry skin... ew. It is best to kill them first, like birdieluv said. Also, lorikeets breed well in nest boxes that are long and lead to a small nest chamber.

no, i didn't think they would come back. I just wanted to know if they ate it or dug it deep.

Also, i bought these birds last year in september. One of them has feather loss on the back of her head only. It hasn't grown at all since then. And also, the birds are very scared for some reason. Everytime i enter their cage, they leave their nest box right away and go to the farthest corner. Although I'd had some pairs in the past do the same thing, but i was just wondering why. And when i was going to dry the floor of the cage, i put a towel in the cage and one of the birds went crazy even though the towel was 5 feet away from him (the cage is big). He hit the nest box and fell to the floor then flew all over the cage. I do take care of them properly, changing their food 3 times a day and cleaning their cage everyday. As i mentioned before, their cage is quite big. its 6x6x5 feet

Huntress AKA MissIllTellYouWhenYouSpell A WordWrong Bee, Frenchy my female loriekeet seems to loose head feathers everytime she starts nesting also when you set them up for breeding make ur own lorikeet moouse to feed them its helped me alot it consist of: freshly mashed apples, boiled carrots (to soften them and make it easier to smash) papaya, a little bit of Campbells V8 veggie juice, cucumbe(remove all seeds and cut into small chuncks), real bee honey, a bit of brown sugar, lorikeet dry nectar, and enough water to puree into a moouse like mixture. Heres a pic of my pair and their nestbox and their baby. Notice the angle and shape of the nestbox.
