He will need BOTH wet and dry throughout the day. It's great your giving him fruits and vegies- corn and apples are great, grapes are ok on occasion but I'm pretty sure they contain too much iron and I think lories are prone to hemochromatosis (iron storage disease). Some other good fruits: Oranges, mango, figs, papaya, pears, cantaloupe, pineapple, kiwi fruit, pomegranates, guava, banana and strawberries are good, diced up or even mashed or made into a thick nectar mix is a treat! Carrots, chopped up iceburg lettuce and tomatoes are some more good vegies. Honey is very good for lorikeets (I smear some onto an unused toothbrush and my girl loves to stick her tongue through the bristles! -make sure it's unused or your bird could be poisoned by the toothpaste residue) You can also feed mealy worms (put in a bowl of boiling water to kill them first) small amounts of cooked meat for protein and especially good are natural food sources such as bottlebrush and grevillea if possible. Other flowers that are safe (if organic/ pestiside free) are pansies, nasturtiums, roses, marigolds, hibiscus and dandelions. Jam is too high in sugar and preservatives, I wouldn't bother treating with something unhealthy when he'll enjoy AND benefit from being treated with something good for him ;) Oh and don't feed bread, it swells in their crop and can be dangerous. I used to give my lorikeet crumbs of toast but I stopped because once she choked for about 5 minutes, scaring me half to death! Good luck with your new bub!
