Where did you get your lory/lorikeet? (USA)

I'm looking for a lory or lorikeet as a new companion for around late May/early June. I'd really like to rescue but at the moment there are 4 on petfinder and the closest is 15 hours away (so a home visit is sort of out). I check the tristate area and New England area craigslists almost daily (I'm in NY) but haven't had any luck (and anyway I'm not ready to pick one up until after I move house in early May).

So where did all of you who own these precocious birds get yours? If I go to a breeder are there any recommended? When do they usually hatch (I've read they can lay year round but haven't seen many babies advertised and those who do say they will ship unweaned, not ok in my book even though I do know how to handfeed). I wouldn't mind an older bird either though I would prefer one that I can at least handle (so all the peple selling breeders or breeding pairs are probably out). Any tips would be appreciated.

Try birdbreeders.com I have even seen some adults on there. I bought mine from a breeder in Florida.

Where are you? There is a blue streaked lory on Kijiji in DC for $700.

I picked mine up from Craigslist (Northern, CA). They are hard to find. I checked the local rescue records and they have had one for several years and only two in like 6 years.

They are hard to find- the lady that I got mine from said that it is because the zoos here are buying them up to put in the aviarys for people to come in and pay to feed them. I don not know how true this is, but many zoos have that program so who knows. At any rate, my guy came from a couple that lived five hours from me that were rehoming him because they did not have enough time to spend with him anymore. You should try birdbreeders at already mentioned, I have seen a couple of breeders listed on there.
