Lory Prices in the US

Every now and then I look on websites that sell birds. One is Bird Crazy. I saw today that they have two baby "Blue Mountain Rainbow" Lories. The thing that surprised me is that they are charging $8,499.99! Here is the link: Bird Crazy - Bird Availability . I just was not sure if that was how much lories go for here in the US. They are beautiful birds but that is really expensive.

Yeah, some of those prices look totally unreasonable. There is one on birdbreeders for $700.

I would think they meant $499...without the 8.

Yeah. I have seen much lower prices on BirdBreeders but I know that prices vary by state. Also, they are a store and not a breeder. I was more curious than anything else. Thanks!

I have a Blue Mountain (Swainson's) Rainbow Lory, he is a rehome and I paid $500 for him and his cage. This is pretty reasonable and close to some other prices that I have seen. Right now there is a Rainbow Lorikeet on Kijiji in Huntsville for $350.

350$ is the average I've seen for rainbows. All of their prices seem in the overly high range but I'd assume 8499 is a typo or they are idjits. :D

I called the company to let them know there was a mistake on their website. she got a good laugh when I explained that she might not get very many sales on her lories with them priced at over 8,000 dollars each. She said they are supposed to cost $849.99 and would have the webmaster change the price. Whew, still a pretty penny to pay for a lory in my opinion - especially a rainbow. We have a red for adoption at our place for $250.

You are right. Even $849.99 is still high. Maybe they can charge higher prices because of a lack of other places to buy those species in their area.
