This is hard, i've contacted all pet shops and all breeders in Michigan so now I have to look not- locally. (about 200 or more phone numbers, no one had any.)
I can provide a huge flying area, cooled down summer room, 30oz+ water daily for drinking what it wants, toys, powdered nectar, and extra money not spent on parrot will go to extra toys, more nutrients, extra foods such as fruits, even more space, and the house only contains two people living here, no pets, smoke free home, everything needed. I am in hopes to find one for under $100 to provide extra stuff for it, including possibly a 5ft + tall cage. Please help me with finding one, I really want to give it a good home and this is its chance! ! ! I really mean it =) Shipping: 49445 MI USA I know, it sucks I have to go to a forum to find one.MUST have been tamed when small! If you know any that may be available for this cost, let me know. |

As you've figured out, lorikeets aren't commonly kept. I'm being honest when I say I've never seen a lorikeet from a breeder or pet shop anywhere relatively near $100. Maybe a rescue might be better, though from what I've seen, Lorys and Lorikeets tend to be few and far between. You also need to consider what you want in a bird. Some species are louder and some require much more space or different bar spacing due the the fact that sizes range from smaller than a budgie to the size of a small Amazon. Some lorikeet species are also known for being nippier than others. Some are prone to going through nippy stages, too. Their body language tends to be different than other parrots as well.
Some breeders will ship, though it's at least $100 in shipping alone, depending on location. Have you had birds before? At least 50% of my lorikeet's diet consists of fresh foods (fruits and veggies). It isn't an extra, but part of his diet and keeping him healthy. Do you have a certified avian vet in your area?

It is difficult in certain area to find Lorikeets. My local Petco here in the Bay Area in Northern CA (Saratoga) works with a local Lorikeet breeeder. They have one currently available for $500. I have his brother (guessing at sex for both) who is very lovable.
Avian Veteranarians are Board certified for their specialty and have a much greater knowledge of birds. You might do well to research them in your area and get to know them, as they occasionally come across birds that need to be rehomed. You might also try volunteering with your local bird rescue and be a foster parront. This could move you up on the list substantially for any that happened to need rehoming. Lori's are very hyper and hi-strung, like a lab or dalmation, demand constant attention, and squirt when they poop (like every 5 minutes). I've taught mine not to poop on me, but haven't got him to go to a spot yet. He shreiks in my ear when he's excited (I know I have permanent hearing loss or will soon). They are definitly "specialty" birds that require maximum attention. Good Luck.
