Orbit Doing Laps in ICU

You can't keep a sick lory down. Just two days ago, my little fellow had a weak grip on life. Today he wants to play games and just can't understand why mom is trying to keep him quiet. I had company over this afternoon and Orbit could not quit peek-a-booing from his little tank.

Wow, hard to believe he's the same bird that's been fighting for his life. He's a cutie. I'm happy he's starting to feel better.

I am blown away by how quickly his energy came back and asked my vet what she thought about it. She said that birds have the ability to regenerate blood very quickly. Maybe that can account for some of the energy? Friday night he was cold and lifeless. His eyes were glazed over and he could not stand up or hold his weight. I'm feeling very protective of him still - thinking maybe he feels just well enough to mask any remaining symptoms like he was doing before, so I'm trying not to get my hopes too high. I wont feel better until I see his next set of labs.
Here is a picture of him on Saturday night after only one tube feeding and less than 8 hours from the time he was too weak to support his weight. He was still too weak to step up without wobbling there but was managing to hold his head halfway up.

He is breathtaking!!! The coloring reminds me of the female eclectus which I find incredibly beautiful. I don't know if I could handle the energy levels of a lory. I hope the tests show positive improvements tomorrow.

Poor Baby! I hope he gets better quickly!
I just answered your post about the molasses so just delete the questions I had about the hospital cage part. :)

I think that when they are sick the levels can be way beneath where they should be, but as they start to get better and with the supplemental feeding you are doing - I am sure that he will have better results with he next labs.

He is such a cutie and as much as he wants to get out and play - mommy knows best. Ya gotta love their spunk and personality.
