New Here

Hi, im just about to get my first Rainbow, cant wait, I think she will be about 3 weeks old so I will be able to finish off weaning her which will be fun. Having never owned a Lorikeet before, thought I should learn as much as I can , so here I am. Nice to meet you all

Welcome!

They are similar, but they are all unique. Post a pic!

Watermelon is almost completly reliably potty trained. He goes on command mostly. But that's every 3-5 minutes so the person needs to be on their toes and recognize the Lori equivalent of the the 2-3 year old human potty dance.

How exciting! Lorikeets are the best :D Make sure you're 100% ready to the task of weaning, especially if you've never owned one before! Apart from researching about it and talking with the breeder/ pet store, it'd be a good idea to take him to your avian vet asap when you get him and the vet will help you out on how to safely hand feed. Lots can go wrong so you'll want to have it down to a fine art! ;) Can't wait for pics! Do you know what type you are getting?

So exciting! Let us know when he/she arrives. :) Lorikeets are the best.

I don't think Rainbows all look the same, there are little differences. :P First there are over 20 subspecies of rainbow lorikeets, all different. For example NoLimitssjca has a Green Naped Lorikeet and Ashling has a Swainson's Lorikeet (both rainbow lorikeets).

I use to have a Swainson's rainbow lorikeet, their green nape band varies in size, as well as the amount of red on the chest. But they are all cute and we love to see photos. :)

I use to peg a sheet to the back of my lorikeet's cage, stopped poo getting on the walls (other than that it rarely landed outside of the cage), and it doubled as a cage cover.
