Lorikeet funnies

Ok we all know our lorikeets are the most interesting creatures out there :) so I thought we could maybe share some funny wee stories we have about our Lorikeets. Or maybe something they do that makes you laugh or smile.

Or if you dont have a Lorikeet just an interesting story about any birds you have, had or like.

Diz likes to chase my partents dog around the house. I feel kinda sorry for the dog, she is old, going blind and deaf as. Dizlikes to hop up behind the dog and rub her face against the dog until the dog runs away lol.

She has also tried to take on a boxer dog before. The boxer didnt seem to know what to do with the wee feathered creature running towards it makeing strange noises so it ran away lol

Rainbows must be more clownish/hyper than other keets..... I swear Monty doesn't do much clowning really!

Although whenever I wash my hair and wrap the towel in a turban style on my head, she must always climb and sit right at the peak. This was always funny, she would see a turban and HAVE to climb it, then when she gets to the top she tweets her heart out, like announcing herself to the world. BUT about 6 months or so ago I had to stop her doing this, as one night she was on the turban and I was talking to someone, opened my mouth to laugh and she squirted ad somehow SHAT IN MY MOUTH.

Of my gosh LoryLady, lol! XD I've accidently eaten lorikeet poo before, erk. .__.

I was just thinking about the funny things my rainbow would do when I had him and was going to post a thread just like this!

1. He use to stick his head into his food bowl and make chewing noises, pretending to eat but not actually eating! And whenever I put something in my mouth, even just my retainer, he would make chewing noises.

2. He had a sock fetish. As soon as he saw someone's foot with a sock on it, he would stop, pin his eyes, and start doing a swaying, worship dance around the foot while rubbing his face all over it. When he first met my boyfriend, we were sitting on the couch and my boyfriend was sitting in that "manly" legs crossed way so Zell my rainbow could see his sock. Zell ran over and started bouncing and dancing on his foot and loved my boyfriend ever since. XD

3. I use to grab Zell's beak and say, "Got your beak!" From merely observing this, Zell would run up to me, grab my mouth and say, "Got your beak!" When he was super excited and anything slightly brushed his beak, even just the cage bars, he would be saying "got your beak" for the next 10 minutes.

4. He went through phases of really liking different objects. Once he had a 'red bucket phase'. So once I got the red bucket and tried to show him. He wasn't paying attention so didn't really notice. So I said, "Zell! It's the red bucket!"
He turned around and squealed, "OH! HELLO!"
It was really cute, especially the "oh!" which he had never done before.

5. Also I know I mentioned this in another thread but whenever I was crying... he would laugh at me! Probably because he thought I was laughing. He may have been insensitive to my feelings (lol) but he was always there to make me laugh and showed me so much love that I couldn't help but feel better when he was around. Infact he helped me overcome a severe life long mental illness. Also when I would cry he would lick my face furiously.

6. One more, sorry! I could go forever about the cute things he would do. Once my mum sprained her ankle and couldn't walk properly for a month. Before she got crutches, she would hop around and whenever she hopped past Zell's cage, he would hop in time with her. XD

Alright, I'll stop for now. :P

One more... >_> I admit I never behaviour trained him properly, except that he was well socialised. So I decided finally to teach him, "Step up", because he had a shoulder problem. Well, I never did manage to teach him.... I would put my hand in front of him and say, "Step up".
He wouldn't budge, instead he would pin his eyes and squeal, "Step up! Step up!".

Oh well. I'm going to train my next baby properly. :P

Hehe, well...

* He actually made up this game and taught it to me. We would both make the sound, "Mmmmmmmmm..." and lean forward until my lips met his beak or his head then we would both yell out, "MA!" at the same time. And do it over and over and over. My brother called us idiots when we played that game. XD But Zell loved it.

* He would LOVE it when I sung to him and made up a story ("Once upon a time there was a bird named ZELL...") or simply read the ingrediants off a box. He would put his beak against my mouth while I talked, and would eventually attempt to crawl into my mouth to get closer to the words. Even if he was going crazy, bouncing off the walls, he would calm down if I sung to him and would go right up to my mouth.
I use to read to him too, his favourite was the parrot section of my Australian bird field guide. There is a hole on the lorikeet page where he got too excited when I turned the page and he went a little crazy.

* One of his favourite toys was a bell. He would lie on his back in his cage, using the perch as a head rest (while the rest of his body hung in mid-air), hold the bell in one foot and use the other foot to make the bell make a noise.

* Typical lorikeet LOVED his baths. Whenever he got excited or if I flicked water at him, he would run for his bath. If he heard a loud, sudden noise, he would squeal and have a bath, splashing all the water out until there was none left.
Sometimes he would throw his favourite food and toys in there and jump in. Once I put a rainbow lorikeet finger pupper that he loves into his cage for the day. Came back later to find the puppet in his now empty bath container, completely soaked. Took all day to dry it.

* Nothing made me feel more loved than to have him give his loud "YAY!" squeal of delight whenever I opened my bedroom door in the morning (he recognised my door's noise), when I walked into the room... he even knew the sound of my boyfriend's car and apparently would squeal when he heard it because he knew I was back home.

Anyway, that's some cute and funny things he would do. It's nice to remember all the little things about him. :D He was the best bird and a close friend. I hope that was interesting and not boring, lol. >_>

On another forum someone there has a fantastic lorikeet who lets out a loud and comical, "OOPS!" when someone trips or drops something. Once she was at the cemetary with her lorikeet and a lady walked past them and nearly tripped over. To the owner's embarrasment, her lorikeet yelled out, "OOPS!"

Hehe.

WhiteRaven, you must miss Zell so much :( I'm so sorry he's not with you anymore! He sounded very special. Will you ever consider getting another rainbow?

I have told this one in another thread too, but it's one of my favorite stories. One day when I was in the kitchen crying I heard Ash call worriedly "Baby?" and when I didn't reply she shouted "BABY!?" Until I went to see her.

When I am washing the dishes with Ash, she will make the same squeaky clean noise as the dishes being rubbed.

When intreagued or excited, Ash will put her beak on my lips and blow me raspberries while pinning her eyes.

When I unzip something, she runs her beak along it like she is unzipping it too and makes a zip noise- especially pencil cases. A lorikeet favorite lol!

When she sees the dogs or hears them barking, she calls their special whistle. Sometimes they come running into the room she is in wondering who's calling!

When I give her "rollercoaster rides" on my hand she goes "Wooooooo!"

She puts her head against my hand and does a sweet, soft little sound, and when I scritch her when she's falling asleep she makes a very sleepy "oh..." noise.

If I disturb her in her cage as she's trying to fall asleep she mutters "Piss off!" She'll also mutter other obscenities under her breath- I am yet to figure out what exactly she's saying.

If I surprise her and say "boo!" She'll say it too, sometimes crouching down and jumping up.

When the Ravens fly past, she pins her eyes and makes a cawing noise which sounds like a sharp, threatening "RARR!"

When she's trying to be tough, she makes a barking noise "raff raff!" and when she's being a monster she goes "Rarararararah!"

When someone else tries to touch her while she's on me, Ash will bite them hard and scream "OWCH!" then laugh at them, bob her head and and flick her wings with glee.

She wrestles with my collie Flea; she'll roll on her back and he'll gently prod her feet with his nose while dodging her beak!

I guess that's it for now ^_^

Ashling - Yeh, I think about him everyday. :( I can't believe it's already been 5 months since he died. At least I know he had a very happy and loved life and he does make me smile whenever I think about the things he got up to.
I'm currently attempting to obtain another rainbow.

Ash sounds like such a cutie, especially the 'boo!' thing. Lorikeets are severly underated as companion parrots.
