Red lories can make fantastic pets. :) Like all lories, they are super playful, funny and entertaining. Lories typically lay on their back to wrestle your hands or play with a ball, often bounce around instead of hop, everything gets them excited and everything is a game. I've never owned a Red Lory myself but I've heard good things from those that do own them. They need plenty of toys because their activity level is very high. They are however the most prone lory to feather plucking.
Yep, they are loud. But like all parrots, you can do things to prevent problem screaming. Ignore any bird screaming for attention and give them attention when they are quiet or talk for attention. If you keep him in a dark room at night where light and minimal sound comes in in the morning, it will delay the screaming they do early in the morning. But they will still be loud because a happy parrot is still a loud parrot. Managing the mess. With my lorikeet, a pinned a sheet to the back of his cage which doubled as a cage cover. This stopped any poop from hitting the walls. The sheet could be put in the washing machine when it got dirty. He was placed on a wooden floor which made it easy to clean up any poop or dried fruit flicked out of the cage. He rarely pooped out of the cage, but each lory is different. Other things you may choose to do is put seed catchers or a seed skirt on the cage. When positioning toys and such, rearrange them in a way that they don't get a whole heap of poop aimed at them (this could take a bit of trial and error). I hope that helps. :)
