Unhappy So Very Sad....

Monday last week was just awful! I put my babies (Koko and Dee Dee) out side on the grass in their cage to play out in the sun and talk to the other birds. I was vacuuming and mopping my floors and i came outside to see that the cage door was open.
I went into panick mode as the birds were not in the cage. I called my friend and we looked everywhere. Eventually we found Dee Dee (red collar) in the garden. She does not have her full flight feathers so couldn't go too far.
Koko on the other hand has been missing ever since. I am just devastated.
There are a lot of Rainbows that live in the trees nearby, we have been out morning and night every day looking for him. Not sure that we will ever see him again.
Now i am not sure what to do with Dee Dee. She is not fretting and seems her usual self. Do we get another mate for her or would she be ok to go on by herself. Am really not sure what to do.
Some advice would be great

I'm very sorry. Hopefully he returns soon! Don't give up on him.
If Dee Dee is happy, why change that? She may not like the new guy.

Good luck getting him back, I really hope you find him. Advertise a missing lorikeet anywhere you can (papers, shop windows etc) because a tame, friendly lorikeet is bound to catch some attention. If he is human- bonded then he will likely find some humans and if they have read abut a missing lori they would be more inclined to help. When my tiels mate suddenly was gone, I gave him extra attention which he now thrives on. If your lori is happy, then don't change anything for now.

Im so sorry to hear that! Are they able to open the cage door by themselves? DO NOT give up hope - there are always stories about people finding birds days, months, even years later. Put flyers up, talk to local vets and shelters, post on bird boards. Keep us posted, I hope he finds his way home to you!!

G'day, I found a tame Rainbow Lorikeet on Fri 25th Sept on Pease St. He's quite tame, obviously raised by hand. I put an ad in the Post but could not find his owner. If this sounds like he could be yours, let me know.

That sounds awful and i hope that you do find him but if you dont if you think about it at least he has a chance of fitting in with a flock, if he were a cockateil or brightly coloured bird not native in your area it would be worse because he would be prone to predator birds such as crows and magpies. i hope that you do find him and try to leave a cage with food and water open in your backyard to see if he goes inside
