Exclamation QUAKER PARROT sighting in MISSION VIEJO, CA

Hi,

Just about five minutes ago i was sitting checking the forums... and I heard a weird call and I thought to myself "thats a funny call for a crow" and I looked out my window to see a quaker parrot (monk parakeet) flying over head. Truly spectacular! From what I could see it was fully flighted (no sign of clipped wings).

on a side note my friend did say he was hearing some weird bird noises lately (he lives across the street) and His mini apple trees are being desimated!

So I think he has escaped from his family recently and I am sure he is missed!

If I see him again, I will try to catch him.

I'll keep you guys posted!

BTW How do you catch a fully flighted bird?!?!

P.S. it could have been an amazon of some sort but I am almost positive its a quaker!!!

How cool -- I will have to tell my friends in MV to keep an eye out. We had an orange grove in El Toro when I was a kid.

I did a lot of camping at O'Neil Park and hung out at Cooks Corner. Learned to drive on Crown Valley Parkway when it was six lanes with four houses on it. Spent a lot of time at Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary too..... those were the days!

Oh, I lived in base housing right next to the orange groves. Those were the days. I also worked at Crown Valley Animal Hospital on CV Parkway.

I miss somethings about SoCal.
