FOUND Amazon San Dimas CA

Found an Amazon last Friday morning. Have checked the surrounding neighborhoods, vets, pet stores, local bird club, posted ads online and at Craigslist.
Its clearly someones pet, hand tame and very friedly. I would love to find the owner but it doesn't appear I will. Any suggestions?
I am looking for a pionus and really don't want a amazon. HELP

A fully flighted bird can travel a long, long way. Can you increase the radius of your announcement (e.g., call vets and stores farther away, etc)?

Somewhere out there someone must be out of their minds with worry. I know if it were my bird, I would hope whoever found it would not give up finding me.

And, as Cpip said, post it on Parrot911.

Cool Found Amazon in San Dimas CA

I was reading your post and there is another site...Kiiji? I think that is it... you might try that. With all the wild parrots that fly around here (Orange), I think alot of them were pets at one time. I do enjoy watching their antics.

If you need a home for the bird, let me know.

Sandra

Great site Vilas thanks. I am at the point its owner will not be found I fear. I need to figure out whats next. Hopefully I can trade him/her for a pionus or sell for the cost of the Pi unless my mother in law wants him/her then it goes to her.

Thats terrible! That bird is obviously someone's pet. Trading it or selling it to get something that you want is not only selfish but highly illegal as those birds can be expensive. If you cant take care of it then take it to a rescue who will put more effort into finding the poor birds, no doubt, frantic owners.

Oh my! That's just so so so wrong. I would hate to think that if someone were to find one of my birds outside that they would just sell it off like that!

Ok... if heshe does EVERYTHING to find the owner... and doesn't... then what?

Give it to the local SPCA who will probably not screen the owner as well as he/she will?

Give it to a rescue that is probably already overtaxed with more birds than they can take and will be selling it just as he/she would?

I think you are all being a bit too hard on him/her.

Granted... I think that ALL POSSIBLE EFFORT must be made to find the owner FIRST!

Well, being completely honest, he only waited barely a month. And I believe the law as stated is that if you find a missing animal that obviously had and owner (and I think the parrot falls under this) then its your responsibility to inform the SPCA as well as the local animal authorities. Could be wrong as every state is different, BUT from a moral human standpoint - and a legal one - you just dont sell off another person's pet. With the recent uprise in dogs being stolen and then sold on as well as parrots, the law's focussing more attention on things like this.

*edit

Actually, no looking at it he waited two days since his origional post...

Hrmm...

And given that he said he'd prefer a pionus

Well, I don't really have to say more then that
