Lost Son - African Gray Congo

My son flew away on 7/28/09 at 2:30 in the afternoon. It has been 15 days today, and I hurt so bad I can't breathe. Please, if anyone has had success in finding their lost children, reply to me. I sure could use some positive energy.
He's only 4. Oh God.....

Hi Patty,

I am sure there will be alot of people on here that can give you the best advice, but for now I would really be looking in the trees around your house, try to listen for him at dawn and dusk, put a cage outside or something that would perhaps draw him down. Have you seen or heard him at all since he flew away? I truly feel for you! I wish you all the best in finding this little grey angel!

Missing Son

Thank you Tracie. No, we have not heard ANYTHING from him since the day he left. We have done everything we can think of. I have posted flyers in a 10 mile radius, I have contacted every vet, humane society, rescue operation that I can find in the phone book. I have called the radio and television stations, and they were kind enough to put blurbs on the radio & on the tv web site. I have posted flyers in all the convienience stores near-by. My husband and dog hike every day in different areas calling and whistling. On weekends, they go further out. I usually drop them off in an area, they go into the woods and come out 7-10 miles from where they started, and then he calls me on the cell phone and tells me where they are, and I go pick them up in the car. I also have an ad in the paper, one on Craig's List.....posters in local grocery stores...ect. I talk to anyone that will listen, if I see a jogger or walker when I'm out looking, I stop and give them a flyer. I even put the flyers in sheet protectors and seal them to keep them dry. I still go around every couple of days and make sure they are still there and legible.
We have an 800 sq. foot deck on our house, and my husband built a huge outdoor enclosure for Syd, and that stays wide open with fresh food in it....just in case. I am just so sad I am having a hard time living a daily life. I am totally consumed. I don't think one single second has gone by in the last 16 days that I haven't thought about my baby. It hurts so bad it is hard to breathe. PLEASE.......to anyone reading this.....KEEP YOUR BIRDS WINGS CLIPPED. It is such a simple thing to do, and it could mean the difference between loving your babies and losing them. I am living proof. All of this could have been avoided if I wasn't so worried about Syd getting "mad" at me. He hated getting clipped, so I had to take him to the vet to have it done, because I didn't want to make him mad. I would gladly suffer his wrath for one more day with him.

I am going through the same thing. So many have said 'it's just a pet or it's just a bird' and they can't relate to what we are going through. I am also unable to function, eat, sleep, I doze and wake up all night and panic and grief sets in again and I lay away forever, crying...I feel the same way, like I can't breathe.......
