I do this with all meat. I can't think about it. I am so glad I live in a time where there is packaged and prepared food.

I grew up around farms, and I could never kill dinner. I wouldn't survive it.

As for am I a vegitarian ?? NO. I wouldn't be able to do it right and I'd end up like so many that do it and pay for it with their health. We are just missing protines etc etc etc when we eat no meat, not to mention iron and things like that. I once knew a girl that lived off of frozen burritos because she refused to eat meat, and she was in the hospital so many times because of it. That and it screwed up her girly cycle. You have to be VERY careful with a vegitarian diet.

HOWEVER. I didn't vote. I am not vegitarian, nor do I want to be one, BUT I eat very little RED MEAT. No pork except for the occasional weinersnitzel (the REAL kind - not the fast food place). No fish. I eat mostly chicken, but again, I gag if I think too hard, and I CANNOT eat CHICKEN OFF THE BONE. Forget it.

I have no problem with killing and butchering my own food. I apprenticed with my Uncle in Germany for a summer in his shop and know how to make all the good sausages and things. With the right tools and herbs and spices I could do so now.
Katrin too was raised with rabbit hutches in her backyard and they regularly butchered them and had them for special occasions. My father-in-law tried to freak me out when he butchered one of the rabbits in front of me and was suprised when I offered to help.
I would much rather butcher and prepare my own meat if given the choice than have it come from some place that mass slaughters them because then I know that they did not suffer as it is done quickly and efficiently.
This is one of those subjects where we will all have to agree to disagree I guess.

With all due respect, (and I know I am horribly outnumbered here), that's a complete load of crap.

I'm vegan, so's my husband and my 10 year old. The little guy makes his own choices and if some day he wants to eat meat, that's ok by me and his choice. My three older children eat anything that doesn't run fast enough. I do make hard boiled or scramboled eggs for the birds, but I try to do it when my hubby isn't home because the smell bothers him.

Not true.

It has been scientifically proven that vegetarian diets are healthier then that of a carnivore (or omnivores.) There are plenty of other ways to get protien in a much more human, incruel way. Meat is full of fat and other things that can cause heart failure, kidney diseases and more.

Ok, sorry about the above paragraph. It may sound a little snooty (or quite a bit rather) but all in all it's true. Or so say the scientists...

The girl who lived off frozen burriotos? No wonder she was in the hospital! It would have been much easier for her to go get some tofu, vegetables, soy powder (for smoothies and such) or any other soy products. Although your right with the last part, a vegetarian must be careful with one's diet, or you could end up snacking on a product with gelatin in it, hence eating ground up cow knuckles and pig skin.

I'm seriously not trying to sound snooty, although I most likely come out as that. But before any of you make any accusations about vegetarians, please read the following story:

I live in Calgary, home of the Calgary Stampede. Rides, calf roping and other rodeo-like events are held at the stampede. There are tents with fruit samples, art selling and more. Last year I went into the white tent. It was an enormous palce, where people could see baby animals of all sorts and stroke chicks.

All was well until I looked at the signs. "Beef" and "Pork" and other such signs were hung above each section. I was horror-struck. All of the baby pigs, cows and the pregnant chickens would eventually be slaughtered, packaged and eaten. I almost screamed. Before us (me and my friend) was a row of large glass tanks with no tops. Inside were mother pigs on their side nursing their young. The sign beside each read things such as "Pigs. Age: 8 days Date of killing: ____."

To think that these innocent little pigs, so young and defenceless, would soon be murdered. It was horrible!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have heard stories of people walking past slaughter houses and hearing the sickening cry of a dying animal. Mcdonalds and other fast food restaraunts are misleading and horrid. They hang cows by their feet, shock them with electric guns and slit their throats. Chickens are cooped in tiny cages with barely enough room to breath as they wait for their heads to be chopped off.
Now please don't tell me i'm being snooty because I choose to be vegetarian. I believe that everyone should have their own opinion, but I also believe that everyone should know the truth, and due to this being really really long, i've cut out over half of everything that's done to animals.
Believe what you like, and i'll believe what I like.
With all due respect? I'd hate to see what you'd consider disrespectful.
It is quite true that there are people who compromise their health by radically changing their diets without doing their homework, and failing to include all the right nutrients.
It is possible to have a healthy diet that does not include meat, but it's also very easy to exclude essential minerals and vitamins if not done properly.
Really? When, where, and by whom? Can you please list any such study by a non-partisan, respected research group?
I am a big meat eater. My dad and my husband are both hunters and both raised on a farm. Never do you come to my house for dinner and not have meat , potatoes & bread on the table.
