Blake, unchecking the check in the add/remove programs list does not actually remove IE, it only removes the shortcuts. If you were to truly uninstall IE (deleting files and registry entries), it would be impossible for you to get windows updates (unless you tricked the MS website into thinking you were using IE, but we won't get into that here). Christy, like the others have stated, if you're getting a massive amount of popups, please run an spyware scan and virus scan. There are many free utilities out there that work great (actually, I think the free ones work better than any paid one I've seen).

Okay Kevin, I just checked. It is still there, but I can't figure out how to get an icon to put on my desktop (and there isn't one in the "Start" area, either). Any ideas how to bring IE back to my desktop instead of having to use it through my mail?

Thanks!

Right click on your desktop, New-->Shortcut. In the location, paste the following

Quote:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"
Click next, type a name for it (Internet Explorer) and then finish. You now have an icon for it :-)

On a similar note, I have managed to block all but a few specific popups that keep coming back. One is www.bingocabin.com, one is something about Riverbelle Casino, another one is a screensaver company. It's always the same 3 or 4 over and over again. I have run adaware and Norton, but I can't get rid of them. Any suggestions?

Go to the rules section in your popup section of windows XP, nortons or adware and place in specific words to look for in the address to block.

Between using Norton Anti-Virus, Ad-Aware, Spybot, and Microsoft AntiSpyware, I have no problems with pop-ups. I only get a few using Internet Explorer, but the built-in pop-up blocker does do a pretty good job. I only got a few over a four month period with Firefox.

Tiki, in ad-aware, do the 'Perfom Full System Scan', then after you do that, do a 'Scan volume for ADS' and be sure that drive C is selected (just click on select). After you delete everything, go into the quarantine (the lock at the top) and delete the files completely off your computer.

If that doesn't work, turn on IE pop-up blocker or atleast download Google Toolbar.
