Updates and opportunities!

As some of you may have noticed, there have been some updates around here. At least I noticed a difference in the photo submission process, and the photo gallery. Our guestbooks also appear to be gone, as does the ability to fully customize a web page on our profiles.

In light of this I am looking for ideas to help personalize and get to know each other's flocks better. I hear stories from people with multiple birds and I have a hard time visualizing the story because I forget what king of bird Dreamie, or Sailor is.

Some people use their signatures, but others don't seem to want to do that, so I'm curious, where do people think would be a good place to make a flock list?

I think it would be really helpful in keeping flocks straight and helping to enjoy stories more. I was going to say to put it in the webpage area, but with that gone, I don't know, Interests maybe?

I see your point and I agree with you that it would be difficult for newbies to know what us "old farts" kind of take for granted.
It would be nice to have something like that to be sure, but I don't think having it in their signature is a good idea. You will have, say three members that respectively have 6 or so birds and for those with slower internet connections it would take forever to load a page just to get to a reply that was maybe 3 words long but the various signatures fill up over half the computer screen.
I think it should be mandatory to fill out the profile before you can post.
It would really make it easier to understand the "who" you are talking to.
Plus everyone can see what birds everyone has.
I thought there was a limit as to the length of the signatures?

Why not ask the Keev's for a diary of sorts where we can share stories, photos, etc of our birds?

the webpages/guestbooks are only gone temporarily. When I was upgrading everything, I went to upgrade the webpage/guestbook script, and realized that 1. the author did not create an upgrade script or instructions, and 2. the structure of the database is completely changed from what it used to be. I am working on it, but have no idea when they will be back. When we first started using this new forum software, I started coding a blog of sorts, but then saw that the webpage hack was already available so used it instead. I feel that a blog plus the webpage would be overkill, and a drain on resources. I can do one or the other. Either guestbook/webpage or blogs. Any comments here would be nice. If the majority rule is to have blogs instead of webpages, I can start coding tonight and maybe have it working by tomorrow afternoon.

Blog is short for Web log, sort of an online diary/journal.
Sort of like this one: http://rubyhuesofgreystone.blogspot.com/

By no means a shameless plug and thanks for allowing to read about the wonderfiul things you have done for Ruby. My Eddie (avatar) was a plucker and is now full feathered, all he needed was a secure home and a lot of love. Do you have a current picture of Ruby. Thanks for the "blog" answer.
